Poll: McCain in Dead Heat in Potential GOP Primary for Re-Election
Edited on Fri Nov-20-09 09:34 AM by last_texas_dem
>>>>A new Rasmussen poll finds that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) could potentially be in trouble with Republican voters back home in Arizona, where he's often faced criticism from the right for his views on immigration.

In a potential Republican primary for his 2010 re-election, the 2008 GOP nominee for President is in a dead heat with former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, a hard-line conservative who lost his seat in the 2006 Democratic wave.

The numbers: McCain 45%, Hayworth 43%, with a ±4% margin of error. A third candidate who is already in the race, former Minuteman leader Chris Simcox, gets 4%.

From the pollster's analysis: "For McCain, the GOP Primary appears to be his biggest challenge since no major Democrats in the state have stepped forward yet to run against him.">>>>

J. D. Hayworth? Has there actually been any discussion of him running or is this just Rasmussen screwing around? That's one dude I was hoping I'd never have to see back in Congress...

1. Hayworth is an animal. Like for real...
I thought we had seen the last of that guy.

He is like a human-boar hybrid... real Dr. Moureau stuff.

Among the dumbest of a dumb lot.

3. Even a lot of the R's in this state despise Hayworth. It would be a miracle if he won a senate seat
when he couldn't even hold his house seat against a Dem.(We love you Harry Mitchell!)

As the person who compared him with a boar was implying, all the voters need to do is see him and they'll run for their guns. Of course Republicans do that if the wind changes, but this time they might actually figure out how to work the trigger.

Hayworth is a disgusting approximation of a human being. He's the only person in Arizona who is more fixated on Bush' hindquarters than Jon Kyl.

4. Are Democrats even RUNNING anyone in this race? I can live with McCain if my other
option is J.D. fucking Hayworth. I was THRILLED when Mitchell knocked his ass out of congress. Who would we run (even against McCain)? I live in AZ and have literally heard nothing.

5. I'd long assumed that McCain would be a safe hold for the R's as long as he stayed in the Senate
If Hayworth actually managed to get the Repub nomination, though, that might be a good opening for a Democrat to make a run. It seems like the Democrats have managed to elect some decent Representatives over the last few years from AZ, but I don't enough about AZ politics to predict whether they'd be able to make successful statewide candidates or not.

6. I think this poll was a set up to make McCain too jittery to support Climate Change legislation.
He's proven many times over he'll bow to the wingnuts during election years.

8. Oh God. McCain is way better than J.D. Hayworth. Hayworth is a total
whack job and probably a birther.

9. Maybe he could get $'error to campaign for him?

Doesn't the media keep telling me that she could be a "kingmaker" in 2010.

So, Senator McCain, get on the horn and get Bible Spice out there. You need her help.

On the other hand, that didn't work out so well last time did it?
