4. Um Ordering reviews or studies aren't accomplishements yet.
Once those reviews turn into recommendations, If he does something good with those recommendations and it results in some kind of real positive change THEN it becomes an accomplishment. Until then, you're giving him credit for showing up to work.

Promoting transparency is an accomplishment? How does that accomplishment stand against his support for hiding everything behind "State Secret" rules? He broke his promise to post all legislation on the white house website for comment before signing. He has admitted to back-room negotiations with insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies. Where is this transparency he has accomplished?

That commission on cutting the costs of Medicaid is a giveaway to insurance companies and republicans who want to see Medicaid dismantled. "Cutting costs" of what is already the most cost efficient health care system we currently have means cutting enrollment and services, and that is the intent. So how is this an accomplishment?

This entire list is padded with shit that is either really routine stuff that hardly deserves being called an accomplishment, or else it is stuff we should be embarrassed to consider an accomplishment given the what it really means.

Are people really that desperate to try to find things Obama has actually done well?

6. This is a list from DailyKos, not the OP.
I happen to think that this should be posted everyday to remind people how hard President Obama has been working. Of course, it seems the people that want him to be beyond human in his accomplishments will never be satisfied. The "I want it all or nothing" mentality is almost as bad as what we see with the tea baggers.

And I have read about them in the press.

That said, the big one is going to be jobs.

That is what we should be worried about right now, both politically and in general.

10. People forget about a lot of these things...
People also forget that in many ways, it is the things you don't pay a lot of attention to that make it worth having someone like President Obama in office.

You know you can lead your life without suspecting behind the scenes your government is constantly working against your interests - constantly appointing terrible people to positions of influence, endlessly signing outrageous executive orders, etc, etc.

In a way, it sort of means you can go about your daily routine without worrying quite as much that behind the scenes your government is acting against you. Life is just a bit more tranquil because you don't have to "watch your back" quite so much.

A lot of what electing a President is about is getting someone into office that just basically shares your worldview (or at least as much as possible). It isn't always so much about the big issues, but rather often more about the little day to day things that you no longer have to focus on like a razor.

Not sure if that makes sense, but I think it's important.

11. Most of those have been reported and some of them are trivial
I've already read about most of those, and it's not news that Obama is a basically a decent president. I would think most presidents would have similar accomplishments (from their own political perspective). Bush, for instance, appointed the first 2 black Sec'ys of State.

Nonetheless, it's nice to be reminded of those things, especially since Obama is having a hard time leading anyone in Congress on such issues as the bailouts, the foreclosure crisis, unemployment, troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, Gauntanamo, and Don't Ask/Don't Tell. At least on the issues where he does not have to persuade others to get something done, he is doing well.

bush announced that we were going to mars. would you accept that as an accomplishment? i think that we can all agree that president obama has accomplished quite a bit, but why try and pad his stats with this crap?

furthermore, i don't think you'll find a lot of people around here that would consider sending more troops to afghanistan as a positive.

quite frankly your opinion means little to me and others. the next time you accept any fucking critique of obama will be the first time.

announcement:

1. public or formal notice announcing something: The announcement appeared in the newspapers.
2. the act of announcing.
3. a short message or commercial, esp. a commercial spoken on radio or television.
4. a card or piece of formal stationery containing a formal declaration of an event, as a wedding.

accomplishment:

1. an act or instance of carrying into effect; fulfillment: the accomplishment of our desires.
2. something done admirably or creditably: Space exploration is a major accomplishment of science.
3. anything accomplished; deed; achievement: a career measured in a series of small accomplishments.
4. Often, accomplishments. a. a grace, skill, or knowledge expected in polite society.
b. any acquired ability or knowledge.

41. Are they mutually exclusive?
An announcement can simply be a public declaration of what has been or is being accomplished.

why so nit picky?

I agree with you on the Afghanistan issue though. Many here would not see that as an accomplishment per se.

I didn't know that Medicare now can negotiate for drugs. That's huge!

However, annoncing intentions and talking about things are not accomplishments. Some of those accomplishment you would then have to attribute to Bush as accomplishments, even though they weren't.

43. I question the accuracy of #52
52. Ended the previous practice of forbidding Medicare from negotiating with drug manufacturers for cheaper drugs; the federal government is now realizing hundreds of millions in savings.
************************************************************

As far as I am aware, there is a PROPOSAL in the House Healthcare bill that the Secretary of Health and Human Services be allowed to negotiate Drug prices for Medicare in the future.

While I appreciate that they are pushing for some kind of negotiation - is concentrating the power to negotiate to a single individual a good thing? How much Negotiating can I expect from a Republican Sec. of Health and Human Services?

If I am wrong, please tell me when and how the non-negotiation ban was rescinded and who does the negotiating now?

I thought perhaps I had missed something earth shattering, but it appears not. After a little Googling and research, I'm not finding any Obama administration accomplishment that ended the previous ban on negotiating drug prices for Medicare that is "now realizing hundreds of millions in savings." Still waiting to be corrected if I'm wrong.
