The Next Steps Forward Toward Health Insurance Reform
Yesterday, we took a giant step toward achieving health insurance reform when the Congressional Budget Office confirmed that the Senate version of the legislation will ensure quality, affordable healthcare for almost all Americans in a fiscally responsible way – actually slashing the federal deficit by $127 billion over the next decade!

However, while yesterday was an important milestone, there are still a number of steps that Senator Reid and the Senate must take before we can really begin to celebrate!

Below, you will find a general guide to help you follow along as the bill moves through the Senate. It's important for you to know, this is only a general guideline and does not take into account every procedural possibility in the Senate. But we think it's an informative, step-by-step guide that outlines the general path of this critical legislation.

1. Did you know
that the cosmetic surgery tax provision of the bill goes into effect for procedures done as of January 1, 2010? I suspect that nobody will see any benefits from the bill until long after then.

Wait till the suburban crowd finds that out.

5. All taxes start collection in 2010 and no benefits until 2014. UHM....
Me thinks there will be lots of angry Americans.

6. I found the section of the bill that talks about this
By the way, its Section 9017, and it imposes the tax on procedures beginning January 1, 2010. So, the doctors have a bit more than a month to figure out if they need to collect an extra five percent on not only Botox and boob jobs, but on circumcisions, Lasik, tattooed eyeliner, skin tag removal, sex-reassignments and gastric bypass surgeries.

Oh, they'll tell you that they'll refund it, if it turns out that the bill does not go through, that should increase support for healthcare reform. This always happens when a new thing to tax comes up.

2. Harry Reid: Good senator, shitty leader
If you look at his voting record, you see that he is a good solid, mostly liberal Democrat.

As a party leader he rivals Tommy Daschle for ineptitude.

7. I think he is actually worse than Daschle
Remember Daschle never had a 60-vote caucus to work with like Reid does.
