Is there something going on in Indiana that I don't know about?
In 2008 Barack Obama won in Indiana by the smallest of margins.

Indiana is a very conservative state. George Bush carried the state by more than 20% points in 2004. It is considered a colossal achievement for any Democrat to carry the state in a Presidential election. The last Democrat to win in Indiana (prior to Obama) was Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.

It has been conventional wisdom that Indiana will not be in play in 2012. Because of very strict vender/phone calling laws, polling in the state is difficult and rare. Most pundits have gone along with the idea that Indiana will return to the GOP column next year.

So why did Obama sit down and do a "one on one" interview with a local Indianapolis TV news anchor at the White-House last week? It looked like the President was doing serious outreach campaigning in a 'very local" manner towards residents of Indiana.

This went completely unnoticed in the National media. (But not to me!) Unless the White House has numbers different from conventional wisdom, the interview made no sense. I could see doing local interviews for news stations in Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio etc. But why Indiana?

Here is the link.

Obama invited a local TV news-anchor to fly to the Whitehouse for interview!
Clearly, they know something about Indiana, that the rest of us do not.

1. Well according to Fox this morning while I was at the gym
every single signature that Obama got in Indiana was fake.

2. The senate race in the Repug primary has
altered the landscape in Indiana and will become a
dividing force for the Repubgs unknown in many years
past. It is a fight to the finish between the absolute
right-wing and the moderates of their party. While Lugar
has been no absolute progressive he is certainly reasonable
on some issues. This primary will, I hope, be so divisive
that many of those who are disappointed in the results will
stay home this fall. If this comes about the race this fall
could be one for the Democrats to lose. They have been very
successful in doing so in recent years and I feel President
Obama is relying on history NOT repeating.

3. Labor Being More Engaged Should Put Indiana in Play Again
Republicans are pushing some right to work legislation in the state. If Lugar loses his primary we should have a shot at his seat which I agree will excite Dems. That's a long shot in my opinion though. I'm not hearing that Murdock is in a good position to win but I haven't seen any recent polling on the race. Lugar is well regarded in the state even among some Dems.

7. If they nominate Romney the Evangelical base will not turn out
to make calls and work. It could be bad enough to put Indiana back into play. That's why I hope its Romney but unfortunately I don't think he will get it.
