Rick Perry: Obama Never Had To Work For Anything
Benjy Sarlin- November 17, 2011, 12:17 PM 5624

Rick Perry says President Obama, the son of a teen mother who frequently was absent from his life and often was stretched financially, grew up the easy way. It’s the latest in a series of winks at conspiracy-minded conservatives deeply suspicious about the president’s background.

Perry’s comments came as he discussed his new ad attacking Obama for saying US policymakers have grown “lazy” about honing America’s competitive edge, a comment that Republicans have inaccurately suggested was aimed at American workers. Asked by FOX News host Sean Hannity about the spot, Perry launched into a highly personal attack on Obama.

“It reveals to me that he grew up in a privileged way,” he said. “He never had to really work for anything.”

He added that “we need a president who has been through their ups and downs in life, and understands what it’s like to have to deal with the issues in our economy that we have today in America.”

29. DAMN I was thinking that same thing
Between this fool and the guy shooting at the White House because he'd become "convinced" that Obama was the anti-Christ and was up to nefarious schemes (similar to damn near 80% of the arguments here about Obama's "sinister motives" apparently about EVERYTHING -- most of which come out to be 100% UNTRUE but that never seems to stop people from coming up with more) so much of this place mirrors the right wing lunatics more and more each day.

that I think the only person left in the country hoping for him to become President is the last moron that held the Whitehouse. GWB would love to lose the moniker "dumbest President ever".

It's almost too bad that POTUS is ignoring the GOP clown car until a nominee emerges. A smackdown on this asshat is LONG overdue.

10. Obama DID grow up privileged.
Edited on Thu Nov-17-11 12:58 PM by JaneQPublic
He was privileged to be the offspring of extraordinarily intelligent parents and grandparents, which allowed him the privilege of being born with an intellect far superior to the one Perry was born with.

Furthermore, Obama was gifted with adult role models and life experiences that instilled in him the importance of education and hard work, as well as a curiosity to keep learning about the world around him. Poor Rick apparently was only taught that to get anywhere in life, you had to learn to suck up to the right people, make friends in high places, and be one of the Good Ol' boys.

Poor Rick, he just doesn't have everything going for him that Obama does.

11. Veiled racism to gain support from white people who believe any loss they
suffered or gain they never got was because a "minority" was given what "belonged" rightfully to them. Unbelievable! I don't think it's ignorance - Perry knows better.

15. Yep, it's the "affirmative action" meme again...
From casual conversation with people in the business world it's alive and well along with stories about "illegal immigrants" who get generous education grants and then return to their native country, thus robbing the taxpayers.

This was addressed to the Limbaugh listeners who think their hard-earned money is going directly to some lazy (black) welfare recipient to buy 40's of malt liquor and lottery tickets.

14. Racist sound bite
In my opinion, he's sending a message that Obama got where he is because of affirmative action. He knows the Obama's were not dining with the Rockefellers and Getty's when he was young, so he's hinting that he was born with another kind of spoon in his mouth.

This reasoning that blacks have the world handed to them on a silver platter sells in the Ditto Head tent where all African Americans are "lazy and shiftless". They believe most black people melt those platters down for quick pawn and blow the cash on wine and Cadillacs. Rick Perry has finally gotten so desperate he pulled out that ace of spades we all knew was hidden in his confederate flag printed sock.

I hope he never leaves Texas again when this is over.

19. Definitely a dog whistle for racists.
Edited on Thu Nov-17-11 01:41 PM by toddwv
Two pervasive memes amongst right-wingers:
1) Most black men can't succeed because they are less intelligent, lazy and violent.
2) Those black men who do succeed only did so because they were given a "free ride" by Affirmative Action.

I see these, or some variants, posted frequently. And no, I don't think that every criticism of Obama is the product of racism but let's call it what it is when we see it even if the right is going to claim that we're just "playing the race card".

23. One other underlying belief among racists....
The think there are many more black people than there really are.

Ask any right winger sometime what he thinks is the percentage of black people in the US. Trust me, you'll be entertained.

I've heard answers ranging from one third to "about half". That last one caused me to ask the person why they call them "minorities", but all are in disbelief at the real answer of 12.6%. That's a little over one in ten. They will predictably then shift the topic to Hispanics by pointing out there is a much bigger percentage of them here, but the truth is that Blacks are the largest group of minorities in America.

They all seem to over represent the boogieman hiding under their bed waiting to get them if they let their guard down. ...Thanks Rush.

I guess the most common trait among racists is actually blissfull ignorance.

Oh yeah, this turd:

ABC News’ Christianne Klein reports that at a breakfast with Republican insiders at the Capitol Hill Club this morning, former White House senior aide Karl Rove referred to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, as "coolly arrogant."

"Even if you never met him, you know this guy," Rove said, per Christianne Klein. "He’s the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by."

Brain power came easy to Obama. Like Kelly Bundy, every time Rick Perry learns something new, a previous bit of knowledge falls out of his head.

Rick Perry was born into privilege. White privilege. President Obama had to earn everything that he achieved. This is ugly, race-baiting politics and the mainstream media should call him out on this instead of spending days upon days talking about a stupid gaffe.

And they took it hook line and sinker. It's so simple, it's too easy. If this is all the Repukes focus on for a few weeks that's a good thing. Because Repukes are lazy.
