Is Intelligent Republican An Oxymoron?
They seem to revel in their ignorance.

6. Point taken
No, it is not an oxymoron. However, it is out of favor with the current party leadership.

The same is true of the term intelligent Republican.

7. Yep. I know intelligent Republicans at the grassroots level
Most of them feel a bit like strangers in their own party, though.

4. Republicanism is based on ego-centric personal passions and emotions
Furthermore, it lacks empathy and the ability to use logic to explore the world around.

10. No
and I think it's wrong to joke or think this way. Just as the first example that popped into my mind, Stve Schmidt that managed McCain campaign and appears now on MSNBC, I disagree with 99% of what he stands for politically, but he is definitely smart. And incidentaly also disgusted with most of what's going on now in his party, his comments last night on Cain and Perry were actually priceless (but don't ask me to quote them because I do not remember, just that I very much enjoyed them :-), and felt kind of sorry for the guy, not easy to be a smart, rational R nowadays).

15. Apparatchiks and philistines
There is a difference in my mind:

Limbaugh, Romney, Schmidt: appartchiks (political purity, loyalty, etc)
Their followers: philistines (anti-intellectual, anti-tolerant, anti-liberal arts, etc)

That's my perception anyway.

I can't get the image of you out of my head, spending every waking minute, waiting to get on a board for Democrats so you can snark at a Democratic poster, and one in particular, for making disparaging remarks about Republicans. What do you expect on a site for Democrats? Verbal bouquets for them.

If you want verbal boquets for them perhaps you will have to look elswehere.

If I liked em I would be one.

Neurobiology is coming to the same conclusion. Let's see how it holds up this time.

19. Not when their agenda of stoopid and evil has been so successful.
Intelligence needn't enter into it. A lack of scruples is all that's required.

23. No, not all of them are stupid and the intelligent ones are the ones we need to worry about.
Sure, a lot of their base is stupid and the Republican establishment uses them. But make no mistake. The smart Republicans know exactly what they are doing and what they want. What they want is no less than to reverse the entire New Deal, and so far they have made a good start at it. For openers they purposefully ran up the national debt and the budget deficit in order to have an excuse to cut back on or if they can eliminate social programs. You see, it is possible to be intelligent and evil at the same time.

26. I think "compassionate conservative" is an oxymoron, but not "intelligent Republican"
I think that's painting with too broad a brush. I wouldn't automatically dismiss those with whom I disagree as unintelligent. Misinformed, maybe. :)
