If Sarah Palin Had Run, She Would Have Easily Won The Nomination
None of them would be able to beat her. Not even Romney.

Easily.

1. If Palin had run
...she'd have dragged them over to her version of insanity.

It would have been an even funnier chase/ride.

3. It won't be the first time a write-in candidate wins A primary.

25. I wander if that is the plan...
especially with Rick Perry acting like a drunk teenager.

4. Do you get the feeling that somewhere Tim Pawlenty is punching himself
He jumped out of the race because he thought Michele Bachmann was unstoppable. We've been through two not-Romney crashes since Bachmann imploded.
If he'd stayed in, he would have won by default.

5. Be thankful he dropped out when he did
Pawlenty is very good at appearing to be sane and may have been a threat as he could fool voters who don't dig into things as deeply as we do. I'm surprised TPB didn't throw more money at him as he would have been a great puppet.

7. Dumbest move of the campaign....he certainly would have had the nomination by default
if he'd the guts to hang in and fight for it.

12. I 've though that as well
He was poised to be the only sane conservative alternative to Romney. I think that Larry O'Donnell actually had it right that he was the only one without a huge flaw. (Palin, Cain, Trump and Bachmann are too weird.) Santorum and Gingrich are too unlikable. Paul is too extreme even for the RW. Perry is untrainable or lazy - how can you not know your OWN positions?

I suspect that when (and if) Cain implodes, his people will not WANT to go to Romney, but they might blame Perry for pushing these stories - so who can they go to? Had Pawlenty stayed in I suspect he would have been the beneficiary of Perry earlier collapse and Cain would never have been the frontrunner of the Romney alternatives. Now, it looks like their choices are to accept that Romeny is their only choice - or go to Newt and/or Santorum.

In 2008, some spoke of how Obama lucked out in 2004 with the strongest of both his primary and general election imploding. Then in 2008, McCain/Palin imploded and the Clinton campaign took an inevitable win and lost by a horrible campaign. Now it looks like, in a reelection that could have been really tough - he will race someone easily made to look unlikable.

That includes Romney, where his Gordon Gekko like career can be attacked, just as Ted Kennedy attacked it. Given that few now like Wall Street or anyone in the financial industry, it is really hard for him to us his career - he made a fortune as he laid others off, outsourced jobs and raided companies for their assets. Then as one of my kids still points out when his name is mentioned, you are in trouble when the story your kids use to "humanize you" involves driving from MA to Canada with your dog in a crate on the roof!

9. No way. Have you ever seen her polling with Republicans?
When she was polled with all current candidates she LOST. Why people can't see that she is a media creation - I do not understand. She is the Kim Kardashian/Paris Hilton of politics. Lots of attention but very few real people take her seriously. I amazed that so many DUers do.

10. I bet she'll jump into the race 2 weeks before Iowa and use the momentum of total media hysteria
She never intended to have to campaign the full primary … McCain taught her how to show up at the 11th hour and be the queen bee.

I bet she'll run as an independent write in. She has 100% name recognition.

She never intended to debate the other candidates. She expects to share the stage only to debate Obama and Romney in the general election.

She will never do a press conference either.

13. I'm not at all sure of that. It's easy to second guess something that never happened....
Edited on Thu Nov-10-11 01:33 PM by Honeycombe8
they don't have to show up at debates, risk themselves, get themselves embroiled into various situations...things in the past coming out (remember that fairly new book that's out that paints a horrible pic of Sarah and Todd, that she may sue over?).

But that's no matter. She didn't WANT to run. As I've stated before on numerous occasions, Sarah Palin is all about MONEY. Not political office (that's too hard of work...much easier to do a reality show or opine on Fox for millions a year).

If Perry hadn't entered the race, many would be saying right about now that Perry could've won easily. After all, he had run 11 times for office, and never lost even once. He had the looks, the backers, the experience, the track record. But look what happened.

As Lucy's Ricky would say...."Wa Hoppened????!!!!???"

14. I will be honest - I totally dismissed her ...
even in the primary. I thought the saner elements of the party would just not support her at all.

But, I agree that the way it has played out, she would be in DARN good shape now - because the party CLEARY is looking to try to vote for anyone other than Romney/the biggest wingnut possible. She has her gig down, and the way the right wing/liberal media keep going after Romney's top challenger as they arise, she would be able to deflect that in her victimization role.

15. Sadly, I agree. Of all her flaws, she at least knew what she had to work with,
understood their stupidity, their desire for a cheap and easy image boost, their love of her extremity. She at least knew her own capacity to appeal to these troglodytes. I further think that if she had obtained the nomination, she would have won.

17. As The Ultimate Anti-Mitt, Palin Might Have Got The Nomination
So many Republicans are so desperate to avoid Romney that, a the moment, they would almost vote for anyone. How else has Herman Cain ended up with this much support and Rick Perry with this much money?

I never thought I'd say this, but in a race this unsettled, where the front runner also seems to be the most unpopular guy in the field, Palin would actually have stood a chance. She might actually have won the nomination. And, boy, would that have been a fun show to watch...

19. It's impossible to say.
Had she been running, some scandal would have come up, and it may or may not have ended her candidacy. It depends on the scandal; she seems to have so many.

20. A couple of months ago, I would have totally disagreed
But after seeing this crop of clown college scholars in action, I think you could have a point. Palin isn't smart and has no grasp of any issue, but she instinctively knows how to say things that get attention. And that's what the Tea Party seems to want: no steak but plenty of sizzle. Cain is the closest one out there right now who captures that. Palin would hand him his lunch on the debate floor, with that squealing voice and her and her sing song slogans.

23. that's why she dropped out...
she just wanted to play-act the role of 'presidential candidate' so she could fleece the suckers who follow her...

I though everybody who isn't a Palin fan knew that already?

24. Disagree.
She tried her best to raise money for years, and it just didn't happen for her. She's still pretty enough to get noticed, but she would be a distant third or fourth in the current field.

Look how the lackwits are hanging on to Cain even with all his missteps and the sexual harassment accusations. Palin would have energized the fundies even more and then got her ass kicked in the election. Hmmm. Maybe I should have hoped she would jump in..
