Rubio says he's won't be VP nominee
Oct. 5, 2011, 4:57 p.m. PDT
AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — Florida Sen. Marco Rubio says he's not going to be the GOP vice presidential nominee in 2012 because he's focused on being a U.S. senator.

Speaking at a political forum in Washington, Rubio said flatly: "I'm not going to be the vice presidential nominee." He then repeated himself.

Rubio said he didn't run for the Senate "to have a launching pad for another job."

The Cuban-American Rubio had been seen as a potential draw for the critical Hispanic vote.

Rachel Maddow reported this tonight.

1. All other things aside, this is good news.
Rubio is a little too attractive as a VP, with his pull in Florida and with the Hispanic voters.

5. smart guy...he know's the drill. Let the Dems mop up the mess - and
it will take 4 years before the recession cycles out and the pendulum
swings. Even if you win the WH, you will sully yourself there.

10. Good to hear
I'm glad they won't be able to use a blatant tactic to offset their alienation of Hispanic voters.

11. Exactly. The pundits were assuming Rubio would be the Repub. VP this whole time. I
wonder if they'll keep talking about him (wishful thinking) like they did about Christie.

15. There just isn't any future in it.
He knows who will be running at the top (1 of the gang of 8), and has seen the shape and outline of 2012. He knows that the Republicans will lose and he doesn't want to Sarah Palin himself.

26. Oh it could
But it won't, because they won't be able to win Florida's electors. But Jeb has four year to move somewhere.

19. I honestly think they'll consider Cain for the VP spot. It probably won't help....
but it might help their effort to shed their "image". ;)

27. Actually, it's probably their best bet.
Romney is far more electable than the rest of the GOP crop who is running for president right now and Cain is going up in the polls.

28. Once people find out about Cain's recent and past statements and his positions on the
issues, Cain will never be on a winning ticket.
