PPP Florida Poll: Obama 46, Romney 45; Obama 50, Perry 43
SEPTEMBER 29, 2011

Fla Poll: Obama 46, Romney 45; Obama 50, Perry 43

The latest PPP robo poll of Florida (MoE +/- 4.5%) finds Obama neck and neck against either Mitt Romney or Ron Paul, and comfortably ahead of Rick Perry.Overall, 46 percent of Florida voters approve of Obama's performance and 51 percent disapprove. Among independents, 41 percent approve and 52 percent disapprove.

From PPP: Perry trails Obama 50-43, including a 53-40 deficit with independents. Other Republicans make it very close though. Romney trails only 46-45 and Ron Paul actually does just as well, trailing 45-44. 58% of undecideds in the Obama/Romney match and 72% in the Obama/Paul match disapprove of the President's job performance so odds are those folks would split against him in the end and put the state into the GOP column. This may be the most positive poll for Paul that we've ever conducted- he leads by 15 points with independents even as the rest of the Republican candidates trail Obama with that voting group. The problem for Paul is that independents like him a lot more than Republicans do and that puts his chances for the nomination at slim to none...but he might really be able to make a dent if he ended up running as an independent instead.

The biggest sign of Perry's weakness in Florida might be that even Michele Bachmann polls better than him there- she trails Obama by just 5 points at 49-44. The only person Perry performs better than is Newt Gingrich whose deficit against the President is 8 points at 50-42.

3. Just look at the headlines
of all the bizarre stories in the news and they happen in FLORI-DUH. Suprised? Not me after living in this glorious "paradise" for 4 years. This state elected the fraud Rick Scott. Write off Florida.

2. so, are there really 2%
of the population who says "Sure, I'll vote for Obama if he runs against Perry, but not if he runs against Romney."

6. I think so.
Don't understand it, but I believe that is the case. Perry is scary and Romney has 'the look.' Has nothing to do with policy really. Just someone who looks smart and reasonable. Capisc?

11. I guess you are right
Just seems like a weird way of thinking to me. But I'm pretty sure that at least 2% of the population has a pretty weird way of thinking.

9. Exactly!! I've been saying it now for several years. Mark Rubio is the GOP's secret weapon
He rolls with the Teabaggers, but not too much to turn off Hispanic and mainstream Republicans.

The GOP will choose either Rubio or McDonnell (governor of VA) as the running mate. Since Obama won VA and FL in 2008, they want to make sure that he doesn't win again. My guess is that it'll be Rubio. He's young, good looking, walked arm and arm with Nancy Reagan (and saved her life!), and neutralizes the Teabagger wingnuttery.

He's the GOP's best choice!

7. Obama 45, Ron Paul 44
good thing the corporate media totally ignores Ron Paul. i know he would be bad and i could never vote for him - but he strikes a huge cord in people by wanting to END THE WARS and Legalize Drugs.

10. He Doesn't Want To Legalize Drugs
He wants to return the power to the states.

Huge difference.

8. If Ron Paul or Bachmann were the nominees and people became well acquainted with their
beliefs they would fall well below--Perry too. As for Mitt, he does best because he is seen as the moderate, but he will have to explain away his constant flip-flops. And when he takes on Obama on health care he will have to repudiate the bill he passed in MA. He will also need to explain away all the jobs he sent overseas.

12. Frontrunner
Don't buy into the RW talking points that are taking over right now. Obama is still the front runner in this race!!!
