POTUS at fundraiser hits Perry as "a governor whose state is on fire denying climate change."
Edited on Sun Sep-25-11 11:09 PM by Pirate Smile
Reporters on Twitter re what Pres. Obama is saying at his fundraiser:

Sam Stein: https://twitter.com/#!/samsteinhp

Obama went quite campaign-mode during fundraiser tnight, knocking GOP debate audience for cheering non-insured dying and booing gay soldier

"You've got audiences cheering prospect of somebody dying bcse they don't have health care + booing service member... because they're gay"

According to pool report, Obama also directly called out WSJ editorial page and Fox News for spreading ""inadequate information."

Obama "told the donors if they believe in a "fact-based" America, they need to work hard for him."

Jake Tapper https://twitter.com/#!/jaketapper

POTUS at fundraiser hits Perry as "a governor whose state is on fire denying climate change."

More POTUS: "audiences cheering at the prospect of somebody dying because they don't have health care..."

...and booing a service member in Iraq because they're gay. That's not reflective of who we are..."

"This is a choice about the fundamental direction of our country. 2008 was an important direction. 2012 is a more important election."

- I'll try to clean this up - it is from Twitter.

edit to add - I'll keep posting details from twitter:

Lady Gaga's at big $$ Obama fundraiser at Facebook COO Cheryl Sandberg's home wearing a blk dress w/ a scalloped high plunge back. #news

All right - I think we need a photo of Gaga's shoes:

jbendery

WH pool report: "Lady Gaga entered... delicately walking on sky-high heels (she towered over everyone, a good 2 feet taller than POTUS)."

Ha - the pool report on Lady Gaga is causing mass reporter confusion:

Niels Lesniewski

If @ladygaga is about a foot shorter than POTUS, and the hair added 6 inches, then to be 2 feet taller she would need like 2.5 ft. heels?

Meredith Shiner

I'm confused as to how Lady Gaga could be "a good 2 feet taller than POTUS" given that he's like, 6'1" #FunWithPoolReports

Woo Hoo - found an article (they'll be many soon).

OBAMA: 'Don't Compare Me To The Almighty, Compare Me To The Alternative'

For the first time this election season, President Barack Obama addressed a potential reelection opponent, using a fundraiser in California to criticize Texas Gov. Rick Perry, albeit not by name.
Obama expressed bewilderment at the state of the Republican party — referring to GOP debate attendees who booed a gay service-member serving in Iraq.

"Some of you here may be folks who actually used to be Republicans but are puzzled by what's happened to that party, are puzzled by what's happening to that party. I mean, has anybody been watching the debates lately? You've got a governor whose state is on fire denying climate change," he said, to applause. "It's true. You've got audiences cheering at the prospect of somebody dying because they don't have health care and booing a service member in Iraq because they're gay."
"That's not reflective of who we are," Mr. Obama said. "This is a choice about the fundamental direction of our country. 2008 was an important direction. 2012 is a more important election."

Quoting Vice President Joe Biden, Obama effectively laid out his reelection strategy, saying "Don't compare me to the almighty, compare me to the alternative.".

According to the pool report, Obama also listed his accomplishments as though a CEO at a shareholders convention.

"I'm back to report to you, my stockholders," he said. Over the past 2.5 years he said he has rescued economy; "decimated" al Qaeda including killing bin Laden; ended don't ask, don't tell; created the consumer protection agency, Lilly Ledbetter; environmental moves like fuel efficiency standards; and by 2013 - "as long as I get a second term" - health care reform will be implemented.

1. Wow! I'm so impressed at his mentions of the debate audiences!
Good for him!

And I agree, 2012 is a more important election.

4. Yeah, but those debate audiences have been horrifying - and a great example of why no argument
by Pres. Obama or anyone else is going to turn them sane on health care. They cheer uninsured folks dying. Nasty.Nasty.Nasty.

I bet the right wing freaks tomorrow. They can defend the crap those audiences cheered and booed. I like the idea of it getting more play in the media.

6. He wants to govern like just about every other President has governed - with a somewhat sane
opposing party.

He doesn't have a loyal opposition.

He has an insurgent party he has to somehow deal with and keep the government functioning. FEMA is going to run out of money early this week. The current House are lunatics. There was a great article on this - and that was BEFORE many of the Republicans wanted to force the country into default. I'll find it.

9. I think this is it - although this is during the debt ceiling BS. I know there was something earlier
THIS IS IMPORTANT because Obama may now be facing his own crisis of the Union. Over the last four decades, the Republican Party has transformed from a loyal opposition into an insurrectionary party that flouts the law when it is in the majority and threatens disorder when it is the minority. It is the party of Watergate and Iran-Contra, but also of the government shutdown in 1995 and the impeachment trial of 1999. If there is an earlier American precedent for today’s Republican Party, it is the antebellum Southern Democrats of John Calhoun who threatened to nullify, or disregard, federal legislation they objected to, and who later led the fight to secede from the union over slavery.

Today, Republicans are threatening a government shutdown and an international monetary crisis over raising the debt ceiling. They have demanded a set of ruinous concessions as a condition for raising the ceiling.
These conditions would include draconian budget cuts at a time when economic growth has virtually stalled—it grew a mere 0.9 percent the first half of this year—because of the exhaustion of the 2009-10 government stimulus. To gain Tea Party votes, House Speaker John Boehner set another condition for raising the debt ceiling again in six months: the passage by the House and Senate of a constitutional amendment to balance the budget. An amendment of this kind would make it impossible for the federal government to reverse economic downturns. The Republicans are, in effect, demanding a major constitutional change in return for not shutting down the government and undermining the American economy. That’s insurrectionary behavior.

8. Excellent, excellent, excellent.
Address the outrages of the insane opposing party directly. There's nothing about a crowd cheering for someone to die just because they're sick that you soft-ball or triangulate with. Nuts is nuts.

Excellent!

12. Update regarding Lady Gaga

UPDATE: The White House traveling press corps pool offered additional information on Gaga's appearance at the event. The pop star sat in a middle table, standing when the President entered. Obama spoke for eight minutes, and did not acknowledge Gaga, but, according to the report, "it seems likely the two crossed paths during greetings inside the house before the dinner."

Given the outfit she was wearing, avoiding Gaga was probably impossible.

"She was wearing a floor-length sleeveless lacey black dress," the pool report relays, "her blonde hair was gathered in a bouffant up-do adorned with a black hair piece with a black veil down the back, which she swept to the side and in front of her left shoulder. (The hair added about 6 inches to her stature)."
