Anyone watching Chris Hayes' show?
He's doing a great job. The discussions are always interesting and his interviews are well-done.

1. Yeah I could do without John McWhorter though;)
Not sure if he or Karen Hunter was right, too early to have an opinion, but since I can't stand McWhorter I was rooting for Hunter.

3. I definitely agreed with Karen Hunter on this

and thought McWhorter's position was bizarre.

As Hunter said, unless the media regularly drops the "g"s when quoting George W or Rick Perry (or Sarah Palin or any other politician), it is insulting and highly questionable for them to do so with Obama - and McWhorter's babble about Negro dialect, etc. in which he essentially endorsed quoting black speakers differently than white speakers only makes it worse.

Dropping one's gs is a rhetorical device that is rarely reflected in reporting. Doing so only for black speakers smacks of - well, you know what it smacks of.

But I was absolutely delighted that Hayes had two African Americans on his program and the other guests let them discuss it without stepping all over them. Usually in these instances, we are forced to watch a table full of white people discussing these things. And when they bother to include any blacks in the discussion, it's usually just one - and they usually pounce on and then marginalize and finally ignore them if they have the nerve to question whether something is racially offensive.

2. Best talk on TV, by far.
I watched Up for the first time Sat. morning and it was great. I checked this morning's show to see if it would be a repeat. It's not. So for the most intelligent, spirited talk show check it out on BOTH Sat and Sun mornings.

5. He's on for the next hour. Don't know if it's a repeat of the first hour.
He does not repeat during the day or evening. Got to run those prison shows!

12. I wish they replayed the show later in the day - but that would mean less "Lock Up". Oh, the horror.
:wow:

17. They're probably waiting to see how well
the show does before they use up any "Lock Up" time, but I sense they're gradually moving toward an all news channel. It wasn't that long ago that they played the "Lock Up" type shows at night all through the week. They've really come a long way over the past few years.

9. I think you can download a podcast of the whole show.
Just go to the MSNBC web page. I believe they are free via Itunes. I haven't looked, but you can probably watch the show directly on the web page,a segment at a time, like you can the evening shows.

14. Hmm Interesting
I much prefer a host who doesn't talk at/yell at me about what they think but instead encourages discussion, listens more than they talk, doesn't talk over and/or shout down guests who disagree with them, and treats questions as a way to elicit guests' point of view, not as yet another opportunity to continue preaching their own opinions.

So I much prefer Chris Hayes to Olbermann or Cenk. :-)
