Herman Cain upsets Rick Perry in Florida straw poll
Reporting from Orlando, Fla. -- In a symbolic setback for the Republican presidential frontrunner, businessman Herman Cain tripped up Gov. Rick Perry in a straw ballot of Florida Republican activists Saturday.

The vote has no bearing on the choice of a 2012 nominee but, along with recent campaign events, is likely to increase the chances that the Republican presidential contest will tighten. It comes on the heels of a performance by Perry in a Florida debate Thursday night that disappointed conservatives, including delegates who came to Orlando expecting to back the Texas governor.

Cain received 37% of the vote. Perry, who made by far the most extensive effort, was a distant second with 15%. He barely edged out Mitt Romney, who did not compete here, at 14%. He was followed by Rick Santorum, 11%; Ron Paul, 10%; Newt Gingrich, 8% and Jon Huntsman, 2%.

Michele Bachmann, who scored a high-profile straw vote victory in Iowa last month, finished last, with less than 2%. The Minnesota congresswoman, like Romney, chose not to compete in the Florida ballot.

4. People who would have voted for him before the debate got spooked - but the key is that they are not
going to Romney. They really, really don't want to have to get Romney for the nomination. So they went to Cain - kind of a throw away, protest vote.

Says a lot about the questions re Perry's performance and how strong they want to avoid Mittens.

17. "My 999 plan! The Chilean model!"
What an embarrassment.

But the worst was his claiming that Obamacare would have killed him because it would have denied him care for his stage-4 cancer.

Why doesn't someone point out that Obamacare doesn't control his medical care. it only addresses who pays for it.

24. More problematic for him, he is tied with Romney for the sane vote.
(if supporting Perry can be called being sane). May be that wanting to get rid of Social Security was a bad idea, after all.
