"Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) praised President Obama's new jobs plan "

Rep. Waters: Obama 'heard' Congressional Black Caucus with jobs plan

By Daniel Strauss

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) praised President Obama's new jobs plan and said that Obama clearly had the African-American community in mind while he was making it.

"He heard us. As a matter of fact we can see our hand print all over this proposal. We're pleased about it," Waters said Friday on MSNBC.

<...>

Waters said the Congressional Black Caucus wished that Obama's plan was "even bigger."

"But it is substantial. Not only is it substantial, it targets the communities in the infrastructure repair that's the central part of this proposal and basically he's going to these communities most in need," Waters said during the Friday interview. "Of course, this jobs proposal is for everybody, but this targeting to communities of need will certainly help uplift the community that is most in need: African-American communities with 16.7 unemployment, up to 45 percent youth that are unemployed."

1. K&R. How 'bout that? Maxine Waters PRAISES Obama and it gets no attention here at DU. I'm not
surprised. I'll help keep this thread at the top if nobody replies. This should be read.

2. I'll kick it too.
I totally agree with you. I've been critical of Obama in the past, and I've also been supportive at other times. I try to be as objective as possible. I don't think he's quite the second coming of FDR, but I think he's much better than most people here think he is. I've certainly been very impressed with him lately, with this very Keynesian jobs act and his proposal for a millionaire tax. I'm with you; I'll try to keep this kicked as well.

9. Cenk of the TYT used her speech she made in Detroit
When she was going to "Unleash" on the President. Let's see if he will use this segment when she is praising the President.

13. I think it's kind of like cops and firefighters. Everyone just assumes that they're...
...going to keep you safe, and therefore most people have no need to comment on their positive performance. But if there's a scandal in the police or fire department, everybody talks about it. It's not right, it's just how it is.

4. Maxine Waters praises Obama?
Edited on Sat Sep-24-11 01:45 PM by vaberella
I'm in shock. She's usually pushed by the "hold Obama accountable" file as someone on point. And when she says something negative that thread lights up like it's Christmas. Now she praises Obama...it's a fail.

Well at least someone else sees something good. Now it's in her court to start getting her fellow colleagues to do the same and pass it. In all honesty it's her job to freakin' have written that bill. But that's in the past, she better push it.

12. She IS on point. Perhaps your confusion comes from the fact that the...
..."hold Obama accountable crowd" bases its opinion on values, not personalities.

I mean, I love Russ Feingold, but that doesn't mean I need to support gun rights to the same degree he does.

Anyway, I'm glad Rep. Waters said this, and I FULLY agree with her.

22. Exactly. Well put.

I'm always amused by these instances where someone who has, usually justifiably, been critical of a policy now supports a different policy, and posters here try to throw it in the "haters'" faces. When pols or pundits are right they're right, like you said it isn't about personality.

5. Good. Now less praise more pass.
Shame the fucking Republicans into passing this bill. Surely some GOP members still have a sense of shame...I hope.

7. Thank you! That's exactly what I said. Praising doesn't equal passing.
Edited on Sat Sep-24-11 02:17 PM by vaberella
Now the ball is in her court to push this. Of course on here it will be Obama's fault for not pushing it and twisting arms--if it doesn't pass.

14. That's exactly why I won't be campaigning for Obama this time.
Edited on Sat Sep-24-11 07:01 PM by ClassWarrior
He has overwhelming support, and we need to elect a more progressive Congress. So I'll be volunteering for the progressive Dem Congressional candidates in my area this time.

if a handful of CBC members actually are or want to appear "angry" at this president in order to get him to create an employment/economic development platform SPECIFICALLY targeted at the black community, I'm perfectly happy with that. I support that wholeheartedly.
