DeFazio praised President Obama’s proposal to bring fairness to the tax system

DEFAZIO PRAISES OBAMA PLAN TO BRING FAIRNESS TO TAX SYSTEM

WASHINGTON, D.C.– U.S. Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-Springfield) today praised President Obama’s proposal that would eliminate loopholes for millionaires and billionaires, bring fairness to the tax system, and lower the deficit.

DeFazio issued the following statement in response:

“It’s outrageous that billionaire speculators who run Wall Street hedge funds pay no taxes to Social Security and pay a top tax rate of almost half the rate of an Army captain or small business owner who makes $50,000. Asking millionaires and billionaires to pay a fair share of taxes on their very substantial income will help our country’s incredible deficit crisis and preserve vital programs like Social Security and Medicare. I congratulate the president on this proposal and fully support his efforts to bring fairness to our tax system.”

1. Do you agree with DeFazio that Obama lacks will to fight, may lose Oregon?

"Fight? I don’t think it’s a word in his vocabulary,” said the Springfield Democrat, who specifically cited Obama's lack of follow-through in promises to restore Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.

"He repeatedly said that. Then the Republicans telegraphed to him they were going to use a fake crisis over the debt limit in order to muscle some major spending reductions or other things on to him. And that was in December. And what happens? Suddenly he flip flops and concedes everything to the Republicans.”

Asked whether he thought the President had a shot at re-election, Defazio was skeptical.

“At this point it pretty much depends on how far out there the Republican nominee is. You know with a respectable--someone who is a little bit toward the middle of the road--Republican nominee, he’s going to have a very tough time getting re-elected,” said DeFazio.

2. DeFazio doesn't appear to agree with DeFazio anymore.
Maybe he realized that he was talking shit before.

3. In what way does DeFazio disagree with himself?

I see no inconsistency: can you point any out?

5. Going from "He's fucking up!" to "Great job!" isn't a little inconsistent?
DeFazio made the same mistake a lot of people have, which is confusing "it hasn't been done yet" with "it won't be done." Same basic thing people were bitching about this time last year insisting DADT wouldn't be repealed for at least five years because Obama screwed it up.

6. Obama's proposal is a good start
Edited on Tue Sep-20-11 10:39 PM by MannyGoldstein
But Obama's had many good starts that end in utter capitulation. That's whart DeFazio (and I) are concerned about.

4. Wait
"Do you agree with DeFazio that Obama lacks will to fight, may lose Oregon? "

...do you think that I have to agree with everything he says?

I don't agree with the comments you posted, do you? Do you agree with everything he says? Do you agree with his statement in the OP?

DeFazio voted against the stimulus, and I didn't agree with him on that issue. He voted against the People's Budget, and I didn't agree with that.

Members of Congress don't always cast votes or say things I agree with, but that has nothing to do with his statement.

7. Aside from all the bickering here, DeFazio has been a great
Rep. I have talked with him many times and wish we could clone him.
