Bachmann says food industry overregulated
By THOMAS BEAUMONT

As food safety officials undertake wider testing for potentially deadly E. coli in meat, Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann says that regulations are overburdening food producers.

Bachmann visited a family-owned meat packing plant in Des Moines, Iowa, on Tuesday to argue that Americans want safety but also common sense. She warned against regulatory "overkill" and said that regulations can be so complex that they become expensive to the point of putting companies out of business.

Last week, the Agriculture Department announced it would expand testing of E. coli in meat to hasten recalls of tainted products and help officials identify more foodborne illnesses.

At the end of 2010, Congress passed a sweeping food safety bill sparked by recalls of tainted peanuts and other food products. Bachmann voted against that measure.

I'm sure that fascist freak thinks that is a grand ole idea!

Tell ya what, we'll stick her in a box so she can test the food herself... if she dies, we pull the food from the shelves... if she survives, we keep feeding her more.

2. Regulations are a trade-off of having millions of consumers sue under
products liability for illness, injury, and death after eating food products that weren't fit for consumption.

18. Ah, But Michelle Is For Tort Reform As Well
So, when you eat that McPtomaine burger and get sick, you won't have food regulations, you won't be able to sue, and you won't have any healthcare to cure you.

Alan Grayson thought that he was being clever when he said that Republicans want you to die quickly. In fact, he was revealing their long term plan.

13. Let's see
Let's keep the poor stupid by slashing public education. Let's keep the poor unhealthy by getting rid of medicaid/medicare and repealing the affordable health care act. Let's kill the poor by getting rid of food and health regulations. Typical repuke.

14. Let's offer MB two platters of food, one that was produced under govt
Regulation, one that wasn't, and see which she picks to feed herself and her family. Then we can call her a hypocrite.

16. Got to wonder....
Is Bachmann the reincarnation of the owner of that meat packing plant featured in Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle"? I'm guessing she never read that one. And, she probably just loves e-coli and ground human body parts in her hamburgers.

17. how come when Bachmann says it she's wrong (and she is)
but DU vigorously supports "organic" farmers who want to throw off the same scrutiny and oversight?

19. Probably because one affects all food in the US, while the other is just people
buying some raw milk from a local farmer, or people helping the homeless.

20. Fuck Michele Bachmann.
I think someone should ask her why she's pissing on her own party's legacy--it was, after all, a Republican by the name of Theodore Roosevelt who passed the Pure Food and Drug Act.

Food absolutely CANNOT be "over-regulated". Something like this that Americans take for granted CANNOT be watched "too closely".
