Bachmann: Obama Just ‘Sat On His Hands’ And Let Mubarak Fall
Bachmann: Obama Just ‘Sat On His Hands’ And Let Mubarak Fall

Michele Bachmann argued that President Obama should have tried to stop Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak from falling, saying that “we saw President Mubarak fall while President Obama sat on his hands.”

Bachmann was speaking to about 400 people at the California Republican convention Friday, and as the National Journal reports, blamed President Obama’s for “the hostilities of the Arab spring,” which saw the toppling of regimes in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya and pro-democracy protests across the region.

“We saw President Mubarak fall while President Obama sat on his hands,” Bachmann said, referring to the former Egyptian President. “And we’ve also seen now the rise of radical elements all across the Middle East region.”

p.s. Just when ya think Bachmann can't get any crazier she tops herself once again !!!
Hopefully during the next debate, September 22nd, the moderator will ask her if she 'supports' dictatorial regimes :)

2. Uhh... What?
Let Mubarak fall?? Wasn't the whole idea that Mubarak, a thoroughly nasty piece of work, should fall? Wasn't everybody rooting for the Tahrir Square uprising?

Or is there no despot Michele doesn't like?

3. I am not sure what she is criticizing here
Did she want Mubarak to stay in power OR
did Obama not do enough to kick his as out?

Looks like she could go either way depending on the crowd.

4. According to the linked article
Edited on Sat Sep-17-11 09:03 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
Obama shouldn't have let Mubarak fail because now a bunch of Islamist radicals will take over the Middle East. Or something like that.

6. "As President, I would know which dictators to support and which ones to oppose."
Please, please, please, please, please Michelle. Go down this road. The only thing better than you saying this, would be the sound of your lunatic supporters cheering.

8. Unfortunately, crap like this sells well with rightwingers...
I had a conversation with rightwingers about Qaadafi and Mubarak being ousted. I've heard one of them say, "Mubarak may have been an SOB, but he was our SOB."

Essentially, screw democracy and anti-authoritarian/totalitarian regimes as long as the asshole is a U.S. puppet. It's why they loved Mubarak and Qaadafi and hate Ahmadinejad.

15. some conservatives liked Mubarak
he had good relations with Israel for one thing, and they like stability in general. Of course that is 180 degrees different from their rhetoric about "freedom"...

19. Michele Bachmann should have gone to Egypt and stopped the
people in the square by herself if she preferred that option. I'm sure they would have loved to hear what she had to say. Sarcasm alert.

23. Ridiculous. Nice to see though, the rightwing has its pro-dictatorship crazies --
So Bachmann liked Mubarak -- we see enough here who still are enamored with Gaddafi.

With the Republicans, they don't care about anyone outside these borders, because they see them as underserving non-Americans.

With the pro-Gaddafi types here, they don't care about anyone outside these borders, because they believe in their own idea of American Exceptionalism, viz

1) there's nothing more evil in this world than an American Republican (sorry, but there are things worse than that) and

2) any time the United States uses some kind of military force in this world, it is a priori, ipso facto, epistomologically WRONG!

WRONG! EVIL! CONSPIRATORIAL! And also, (somewhat paradoxically) DOOMED TO FAILURE!
