Your comment, however, was really tasteless, as is this MoveOn presidential asslicking. They used to be anti-war, didn't they? Way back when it was politically expedient?

Human decency is dead on DU.

I don't mean to take away from your "haters" op or your concern for our president. But you do not want me to list all the stuff that could be on that list. I do not hate him but I do hate some of what he's done. And you can call me whatever you want or blame me or whatever. I'm just a lifelong Dem and voter, committed volunteer, (when I can) donor, and frequent activist. I am trying to hang in with him but getting a little turned off by insults directed at people who are respectful and sincere. This nastiness is becoming the face of his campaign and making me consider a different direction, to be frank. If you want respect, practice respect (not you personally, effie, all of us).

13. Shoulda included a line about producing the birth certificate.
Right after bin Laden was killed and Obama produced his long-form birth certificate -- both in the same week, as I recall -- there was an image similar to this one with the caption "Here is the birth certificate and here is Osama. Anything else I can get you, motherfuckers?"

You know, Obama's coolheadedness never ceases to amaze me, even if it does irritate the crap out of me sometimes.

18. Exactly!
It reminds me of an old Bill Cosby routine about his high school years in which he recounts the time someone in his shop class put a bullet in the radiator and it exploded.

The Shop teacher asks, "Who put the bullet in the radiator?" No one answers.

Then he says, "You know, your mother has to be pretty low for you to put a bullet in the radiator."

Whereupon, one of the students yells out:

"I didn't put any bullet in the radiator . . . AND STOP TALKING ABOUT MY MOTHER!"

Seems like a lot of folks here are denying they put the bullet in the radiator, yet are still jumping to defend their mothers.

In other words, I think some here doth protest too much.

23. This is the first
that last thing they called the "Great Depression" was just a recession compared to this - the only thing preventing it from being plainly obvious to everyone is the artificial pumping of the stock market

In the 1930s there were near 70% of the population in rural areas where they could in the worst of cases at least grow food to survive on - now only 16% of the population is in rural areas. Feeding people is going to be an ENORMOUS problem and starvation riots are to be expected if current trends continue.

33. Enjoy your coffee, Ma'am!
I try to keep the blood on my hands to a minimum, by attempting to know who I am buying things from, and where their profits are going. The Carlyle Group, which also owns Baskin-Robbins, Hertz rental cars and Loews Cineplex, among many, many other companies, is particularly egregious to me. I won't patronize those companies. Are you saying that voting with your dollars is a bad idea? Granted, I did enjoy the irony when I went to see Fahrenheit 9/11 at a Loews theater.

You surprise me here, Frenchiecat! You're usually one of the cool ones. I responded to a joke with a joke, and you're reaction seems out of character. Why the bitterness here? Should I not vote with my dollars and try to get others to do the same? Why is this an example of "extreme stupidity?"

For those who may be interested, here's more info on the Carlyle Group:

40. "Who have you worked for? Better be careful there, too..."
Absolutely!

I have spent most of my career(s) working for small companies. Of course, I have certainly done work for clients that I did not like at all. I have also refused work from clients (for example - News Corp companies - Fox, NYPost and HarperCollins) that I did not like. I figured someone else could fix their frikkin' computers. And honestly, it means that I live at a much lower standard of living than I could if I just didn't give a shit. I'm willing to live with that. Because I sleep very well at night, and I have people who love me. That's more important to me than the bling the blood money would buy. But, that's just me. And my life is far from perfect, and I know I'm not always consistent.

Your mileage may vary...

But that doesn't mean that I set the bar for everyone else based on what I've done....because I realize that this would be self serving but not realistic. I dare not be the judge of others, nor will I apply to them my own personal standards, and then even think of believing that I am somehow better than those who don't. Just saying....

39. I am bitter, because I'm dealing with bitter people, and they are endangering
Edited on Sun Sep-18-11 02:42 PM by FrenchieCat
the future of this country, including my children, the children of others, etc....

I'm tired of the relentless criticisms, the snark, and the nitpicking about anything and everything this President says and does, and in this case, about something he neither said or did.

Folks wanted this President to fight, and when he does, folks ignore it.
Folks wanted this President to take Medicare and SS off the table, and so he does,
and folks are on to something new.
Folks wanted this President to tax millionaires, and so he will propose that on Monday,
and so now folks say...but it ain't gonna happen...although initially they wanted him to fight EVEN if what he proposed didn't pass.

Folks who used to be nuanced in their view of politics, are now very one dimensional and elementary. Folks who ignore the positives and dwell on whatever else then can find, and
of course, there is much, because the world wasn't ever going to make a 180 turn on all things
just because this man became President. It is silly to believe that this would have been the case,
but yet, many here carry on as though there was that possibility.

I think that why I'm becoming more impatient with those who choose to see everything in a negative light, when it comes to this President, and I'm seeing the results...and I hint at that in a story I shared elsewhere in this forum. It saddens me that we can be so selfish and not realize that what we say here does make a difference...because I truly think that it does, and that the cumulative results is hurting many people....more than many of us realize.

Here's the story that I shared about a conversation I had yesterday: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=433&topic_id=775161&mesg_id=775510

I also think he's far from perfect. As is the case with every human.
And I also realize that it was Moveon that did the text on that image. It was their joke.
I was having a little fun with it, at the president's expense, while sharing a little info about the people who made his donuts. Yes, it was a little Sunday snark. And I'm not ashamed of it.

However... he was holding the donuts, and the coffee. He knows better than any of us who owns that company and what they are capable of. He set himself up, and I took advantage of the moment. It doesn't mean I don't like the man, even with the problems I have with the job he's been doing. I'm capable of both, without suffering from cognitive dissonance.

I'll read your story shortly, when I get a chance...

is appointed by Pres Obama to help "fix" things. Pres Obama has surrounded himself with conservatives and unemployment and poverty are growing daily.

And if we dare call him to task, you say we "hate". The left doesnt "hate" Obama and you know it.

I hope like hell he gets a decent "jobs" bill passed, but am suspicious when he has Jeff Immelt by his side.

48. Yes...Obama was going to cure poverty and make everyone's mortgage payment,
and pull jobs out of his ass, and he didn't do it, and so he will be made to suffer,
by folks actively working to make sure he is replaced by a Republican.

No, most on the left don't hate Obama....but some on the extreme left who need someone to blame
for all of the country's ills do. In fact, that's all they do, and that's all they know.

What is happening is NOT Pres. Obama being called to task, it's President OBama being
criticized by those who have decided that it doesn't matter what he does, they will still
find something, as they will always be something to be critical of.....but that would be
no matter who would be President.

Some asked that he fight, and so he is, and yet, folks are still fighting him.
Some folks demanded that SS and Medicare be taken off the table, but they will
be mad forever because they claim he put them on the table to begin with, no matter
if there are no changes made. Folks screamed that he needs to tax the rich, and so
he proposes that, and folks are trying to find a way to say, it won't pass, so it doesn't
count, although earlier they wanted him to fight, no matter that nothing passes.

The fucked up attitudes on this site are dizzying, for their simpleton one dimensional unrealistic analysis of this one person......

It is just fucked up.

I'm not even sure why Alan Simpson is on the list, since it was a bi-partisan committee that was appointed, and the President didn't do as they recommended anyways.

How does one President get business to let go of 2 trillion that they are sitting on that impacts the economic health of us all? Does he nationalize corporations in this country via an executive order and then fight impeachment? Guess he could try a different tact and appoint Jeff Immelt to an advisory position and hope that sitting him at the table allows the American business world to see that he is a reasonable person, and that they should do the patriotic thing and be reasonable back. For Barack Obama to ignore or slam business non stop and not have anything to do with them would make him derelict in his job as President of the United States. I'm sure in your made up world, business can go suck a duck, but of course, you haven't been the President, so it's ok for you to talk a lot of shit about what someone else should have done; follow your orders. This train of thought is out to lunch, IMO....but I'm not surprised that those who never ever acknowledged anything this President has done would be sitting at that out to lunch counter.

And that's the problem. These people helped put the country where it is today. Under Bush I understood, but under Pres Obama, I am deeply disturbed.

I hope we dont have to wait too long for you to figure out that this is not a war between Repugs and Democrats and therefor you can consider everyone with a D as a good guy/gal.

This is a war between We The People and the Corporatist, like Jeff Immelt, Summers, Alan Simpson, Jeb Bush, William Daley, Dave Cote, Bernanke, etc.

"I'm sure in your made up world,.." When you say things like that, you spoil all hope of a decent discussion.

I simply suspect that some who won't admit it publicly don't care anymore
than those who were chanting "let him die"....they just play like they
care on the Internet.

44. Is that your child?
She's very cute. That young child will not be helped by your constant work against this President. If we all listened to you, the Republicans would win in 2012, and this beautiful little girl, depending on her parents' income (if she isn't yours) might never make it to college. In addition, she may not even be able to participate in political forums on the Internet, if the Republicans get their way. I could see why that might have taken the smile off her face. Her future is not guaranteed, and that actually makes me sad as well as it angers me.

72. I don't choose to attack this administration while ignoring chants of "Let him Die"
I know who to attack and for what overarching reasons....
and it would seem like you would too...
but I guess you don't really care THAT much.

73. Oh, please. Save your strawmen.
I can multi-task by holding the administration accountable AND tear the conservatives a new asshole at the same time. How about you?

74. Um -
what an embarrassing image. Did this come from Reddit or 4Chan ?

Killed Osama, dumped his body in the ocean, handed cutting edge stealth technology to Russia and China, and then allowed those who carried out the operation to die in some ridiculous mission in Afghanistan - result : Killed someone who really didn't need killing (by their own admission) but instead did it as a popularity stunt, risking dozens of lives for his career, lost a considerable technological advantage and in the process reinforced the idea that assassination and not justice is the means to solve problems and entrenched the idea across the entire middle east that Bin Laden is not dead, or already was, as no body was offered and those who carried out the operation died in a mysterious helicopter accident.

The rebels in Libya have toppled Ghaddafi - suggesting Obama had anything to do with it is almost disgusting. Especially when you contrast it with him handing out doughnuts. Fuck me - really.

Didn't screw up a hurricane - um - no, but then again neither did George Bush. If on the other hand you mean a breached levee which destroys an entire city well, when Obama faces that challenge we can talk about it.

Every Economist on planet earth stated emphatically that what Obama has done in response to the financial disaster was a disaster, there will be a double dip and all he effectively did was aide and abet the greatest corporate crime in history, and you are chalking that one up as a victory.

Obamas killing of Bin Laden was as stage managed and deplorable as Bush landing on an aircraft carrier. The saddest shit about Obama supporters is that I am now understanding the obstinate bloody mindedness of Republicans and bush supporters, in the face of indisputable failures and abject corruption they simply refuse to accept any fault and will spin any failure in to victory.
