CA POLL: Obama 54, Perry 35. Obama 51, Romney 38. Oh noooooes... We're doomed!
:scared:

In a general election matchup among all registered voters, Perry starts at a significant disadvantage, trailing President Obama by 19 points, 54 percent to 35 percent. Just a quarter of California voters have a favorable opinion of Perry, while 46 percent have an unfavorable opinion.

The poll represents a huge jump in name recognition since June, when Perry was only a potential candidate. But with increased name-ID comes increased scrutiny: while the percentage of voters who have a favorable opinion of Perry has increased seven points since a June survey, the percentage having an unfavorable opinion has increased by three times that number.

Romney runs closer to Obama but still trails by a significant margin, 51 percent to 38 percent. While Obama's anemic approval rating in the state makes him appear vulnerable, California voters are not yet ready to consider either of the two top Republicans as viable alternatives

The Field Poll was conducted Sept. 1-12, surveying 1,001 registered voters. The margin of error was +/- 3.1 percent. The GOP primary matchup was conducted among 333 registered Republicans, for a margin of error of +/- 5.6 percent.

1. if we lose California, it's a 50-state sweep
I'm more concerned about places like North Carolina and Ohio and Florida and Pennsylvania.

Romney is the one to be worried about. All the other ones are completely nuts.

And I think it is BS that evangelicals in the South and Midwest won't vote for a Mormon. They'll vote for Perry in the primary, but if it comes down to Obama or the Mormon, they will vote for the Mormon, and they won't stay home.

That's my opinion. I could be wrong. As always.

2. Of course, you are correct.
But others on this board have pointed to Obama's supposedly sagging approval numbers in California, suggesting that state might actually be in play.

6. My point is that CA is not in play, never was, never will be (in the foreseeable future).
You should direct your charge of "lameness" at those who feigned concern yesterday. Silly.

7. PA is the real battle ground!
Did anyone see the Huffpo piece yesterday? PA GOP trying to split up state's electoral votes.

9. California?
Oh shit. It's going to be a long year for you guys if the poll you're bragging about is in the most Democratic state in the country.

13. And yet you Obama bashers point to polls a year out showing the
President to be in political trouble somewhere and tout it like it's gospel and it's all over for him.
Stupid!!

11. That's good except that Obama did win in '08 by 24-points in CA
Edited on Thu Sep-15-11 09:12 AM by WI_DEM
and Romney, who is likely to be the nominee, seems to be in position to make it a significantly closeer race. Not win it, but might cause Obama to have to pay attention to a state he could take advantage of in 2008.

16. But if he polls worse than he did in 2008, it could affect downballot races
