"60,000 Reichsmarks is what this person suffering from a hereditary disease costs the People's community during his lifetime. Fellow citizen, that is also Your Money."

3. Damn right! It's time to use the Nazi comparison.
Sadism is what Alan Grayson calls it and that is just what it is. We are headed for corporate theocratic fascism.

5. the nazis were oafish and clumsly thugs compared to today's crop of fascist.
the fascists we're dealing with today have been far more deliberate, far more methodical, and have demonstrated far more patience than the nazis did. hitler went from nearly unheard of to dictator in about three years. these guys have been buying up the media, corrupting vote counting, corrupting campaign financing, taking over school boards, modifying textbooks, rewriting history, discrediting science, and so on since at least 1980.

an entire generation has been brought up thinking that the fascist way of thinking is at merely one of the two legitimate ways of political thought, or worse, that the only correct way of political thought, with the other being "the enemy".

moreover, the nazis did not meet their demise because the germans revolted. it took the rest of the world to rise up and crush them (and many innocents died in the process).

who will defeat today's fascists?

6. The same as back then -- Communists
Or their close cousins, the Socialists. Communists have gotten discredited for the fall of the Soviet Union, and China isn't exactly following the little red book any more, but their time will come again. Maybe next time they will learn from the mistakes of the past and not try to centrally plan consumer goods like shoes and toilet paper. Maybe next time they will be more tolerant of dissent and make democratic voting part of the central plan.

Socialists are doing well in parts of Europe, especially the parts that didn't get taken in by the last banking scam. The only problem is that Communists and Socialists are not by nature militarily oriented, and the fascists are (almost by definition). In the best of scenarios, the fascists will not have a big military advantage to plunge the world into war (again). It's going to take socialist/communist agitation, education, organizing and demonstrating to counter the fascists. That is why it's worth checking out the World Socialist Web Site every so often: http://www.wsws.org/

They weren't that dumb and oafish to have been THAT successful. ;-) We've simply built upon and refined their techniques. As well - today's TEA Party Caucus of the Republican party has TWO key mass distribution tools for their propaganda that the Nazis, Petanists, and Italian Fascists didn't have . . . the Internet and 24 hour news. Make that a 24 hour faux-news station that has a sole intent to dumb down the population and put it in a trance.

I think I've figured out WHY they created the 'meme' about President Obama giving 'good speeches with a teleprompter'. It's because Hitler WAS a dynamic speaker and could fire people up. They don't have that on their side. They have sound clip people (Bachmann, Perry, Alaskastan, etc. etc.) but they lack a dynamic speaker with nuance and passion. We have that.

If Faux-News did not make commentary run nasty messages under President Obama every time he spoke? He'd be able to bank on the 'trance' the Right is in.

I'm beginning to think these people have been brainwashed and lead down a path of false prosperity at expense of the safety and security of the 'others' both at home and abroad. And if that's the case - much like average Germans, French, Italians, Dutch, etc. etc. were lead down a path of 'hating' the others and the only way to change them was through crushing defeat or 'American, British, and Canadian' so-called 'liberation' - then G-d help us all.

9. The Nazis based their eugenics program on American laws and practices
eugenics have been a thread in American culture for a long time.

Eugenics was widely accepted in the U.S. academic community.<6> By 1928 there were 376 separate university courses in some of the United States' leading schools, enrolling more than 20,000 students, which included eugenics in the curriculum

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenics_in_the_United_States

The Nazis based their eugenics program on the United States' programs of forced sterilization, especially on the eugenics laws that had been enacted in California.
