Obama in OH just now called out the Repubs. by saying...
Edited on Tue Sep-13-11 01:57 PM by jenmito
paraphrased, "I just heard that some Republicans said why should they pass this bill? It would give me (Obama) a win! Even though they agreed with my positions in this bill, they don't want to give me a win?! This isn't about giving me a win, this is about giving you jobs and fixing the economy!"

Obama is admitting that his jobs proposal is basically a bunch of Republican ideas .

Well, at least Obama is fighting to get Republicans to pass conservative programs. That's gotta be some sort of a win for our team. Somehow.

60. Hello?
Americans voted for Obama to work with the repubs. Obama knows now they are full of crap, but he had to show ALL Americans that he was serious about working together.

Isn't that what we teach our children?

70. Maybe a miniscule portion of Americans voted for Obama to work with the Republicans
but MOST of us voted for him to CHANGE the direction of our government regardless of what the Republicans want. They had eight consecutive years of doing it their way, so why the hell would 'working with them' even be considered viable?

72. "Working with them" was just rhetoric. They are racists.
They were appalled from the very beginning of the idea of a black man being President, so they are allowed to pull every dirty trick that they would not have attempted were he white.

Yes as a result of their racism the U.S. is suffering. That is not to say we should have picked a white candidate. We need to get through this and I think that time will bring the truth to the surface.

78. "Working with them" was just rhetoric. I don't understand that comment.
Are you implying that President Obama was only being rhetorical all of these times he has bent over backwards to make the Republicans happy?

As far as them being racists. Sure, some of them are and they are virulent about it. However, I don't attribute the stonewalling and vetoing and nit-picking every move as being racist as much as it is an effective tool to get this President to give them more in every "negotiation" while selling the core democratic/Democratic values down the river. Once the President showed that he was a pushover the bullying began in earnest. Maybe you don't remember the Clinton presidency and the ongoing "-gates" from the very beginning (Travelgate, White Watergate, Monicagate). Impeaching a President for "lying" is about as low as it gets. Especially considering some of the key players on the Republican side. They learned from their assault on Clinton and have ratcheted up their efforts to a new level.

The truth is that the Republicans will do anything to ensure that they get Obama to do their bidding or that they get a Republican elected President in 2012; although, I'm not sure why they need that given the direction this President has taken.

The Privatization of the United States Government is their goal. They'll do whatever it takes to get there.

79. Promising the impossible
Like saying Santa Claus is real, when nothing could be further from the truth, but it sounds nice. It also makes people who say otherwise look bad. It was just rhetoric. Sure that would be nice, but it's not going to happen. I'm certain that Democrats expected no amount of cooperation from the Cult of Death.

Clinton's impeachment does not trump the amount of resistance Obama gets. If Obama got a blowjob, they'd impeach him too. I don't remember Bill Clinton's citizenship or religion being questioned.

Regarding the overall issue, business is not the enemy and I really do not think that something as large as the U.S. economy being altered just like that. I do not understand why anyone wants Democrats to be enemies of corporations rather than cooperating with them to accomplish more. The problem with corporations is the idiots running them. If Repukes are idiotic for wanting to dismantle government, some progressives equally want to dismantle corporations (like health insurance), which is not something the Democratic party is going to support. Corporations need to be changed from within, not destroyed. Like the smog bill for instance, if someone came to me and said I have to install a $10k filter in my furnace, that would destroy me financially. I don't have $10k. Why is it OK to do that to a business? The Democrats are doing a lot of help the environment already, which is more than the cult of death would ever do.

If Democrats did not (wrongly) come across as anti-business they might do better during elections.

83. I did not say that Clinton's impeachment trumped the amount of resistance
Obama gets. I said that it was the beginning of the tactic that has now gone full-tilt boogie during the Obama administration. If it had been Kerry or Biden in the White House it would have been the same.

Re: Clinton presidency, anyone remember the "I smoked pot but I never inhaled" gig? How about the Hillary is a lesbian routine? Then, of course, there was the Bill Clinton killed Vince Foster scene. Oh yeah, and Jennifer Flowers. The list is long for those who don't have CRS.

I'm a small business owner. I have never felt that Democrats were anti-business any more than I ever thought Democrats were unpatriotic. You are parroting Republican talking points with the Democrats are enemies of corporations b.s. Democrats used to want corporations to be restrained by regulations that would protect the public from being run over by those greedy bastards who only see their bottom line as what matters in life. I would LOVE to dismantle health insurance corporations. What are they other than go-betweens who jack up the cost of medical care, impose bureaucratic burdens on doctors and hospitals (just as bad as the government's regs), restrict access to affordable health care to those who are poor or unemployed--or both. (By the way, now that 20% of the nation is unemployed, do you think those unemployed folks still appreciate their health insurance benefit from their former employers THAT THEY NOW CANNOT USE? And that doesn't even address the issues of pre-existing conditions, that lovely little moneymaker for Corporate Health America.

Your example of the $10,000 filter is specious. No legislation is going to require every homeowner to install a $10,000 filter on their home heating and air system. Of course, there might be a requirement for a $10,000 filter for a manufacturing plant or a power plant or some other industrial facility, but that is not out of line with the concept of reducing the volume of airborne pollutants those facilities produce.

His exact words, starting at 14 min. in: "Already, yesterday there were some Republicans quoted in Washington saying that even if they agree with the proposals in the American Jobs Act, they shouldn't pass it because it would give ME a WIN. You know, that's the kind of games-playing we've gotten used to in Washington. Think about that-they supported this stuff in the past, but they're thinking maybe they won't do it THIS time because Obama's promoting it. Give me a win? This isn't about giving me a win-this isn't about giving Democrats or Republicans a win-it's about giving the American PEOPLE a win! It's about giving OHIO a win! It's about your jobs and your lives and your futures! And giving our KIDS a win. .."

68. And they're NOT gonna change their tune either.
The thugs DO NOT CARE the consequences. They see a path to the corporatocracy they've been paid to pioneer, and their personal rewards will WAY outshine any praise or phony accolades they might get from their delusional, minion constituents.

Just stop and think about it. Really, it's pretty damned amazing that McConnell was SO candid and forthright about his party's goals with this administration. He didn't say: We're gonna fix this economy. He didn't say: We're gonna put folks back to work. He said that their PRIMARY mission was to make this president a one-termer. To that end, they'll do whatEVER it takes to keep him neutered and ineffective.
Early on, they realized Obama was gullible for even a HINT of any "bi-partisanship" BS. And personally, I don't think he's yet realized they're playing him like a cheap fiddle.
If I wasn't at the point where I DEPEND on SS and M & M to get by, I'd swear off paying attention to this game. It's like watching a church softball team play the Yankees.

The nation is in a stupor and President Obama is seen as ineffective and all the negatives are now squarely at his feet. He has been totally uninspiring to his base and at times hostile. So even though the Tea Party is full of shit, their candidates speak to their values and that fires up their base...that has an indirect impact on the 'non' political class in that they see this 'new movement' as one that is exciting, has the good ideas, after all, look at all those people excited about it.

Politics are most often about perception. Obama created a great perception of what his presidency would be like...corporate control of government curtailed, real health care reform, commitment to the working class, education, infrastructure, jobs, etc...After 8 years of the rubes running the whole shebang Obama's music turned us all on, but then we woke up one day to find he's just like every other politician...and THAT is why so many people are devastated by this man. Because we foolishly thought he was a different breed of leader, but alas he's not. He is smart, he tries, but he isn't 'special' as so many of us thought.

I have very little faith anything worth a shit will get done between now at next Nov and I have a very bad feeling about his chances at a 2nd term.

The ONLY good thing about an Obama loss in 2012 is it will probably inspire the left to proportions epic in nature.

them. They seek positions in government NOT to govern, but to make sure power stays in their hands, so they can keep power and wealth in the hands of a few. Yep, they tear up the country, don't care who they hurt, and then when our president attempts to fix that which they broke, they put their lust for power over the needs of the country.

65. Yes. Look upthread for my post "VIDEO HERE." I posted it twice-with his exact words
Edited on Wed Sep-14-11 09:51 AM by jenmito
written in the earlier post. ETA-here are his exact words: "Already, yesterday there were some Republicans quoted in Washington saying that even if they agree with the proposals in the American Jobs Act, they shouldn't pass it because it would give ME a WIN. And giving our KIDS a win. .."

58. Mr O doesn't get it!
Republicans will oppose everything he wants. That is why they are called the opposition. His giving into everything they want in the beginning, accomplishes nothing. Rather it makes his policies republican and not wanted. Obama's original supporters, what were his base are not going to be calling Congressmen demanding they pass right-wing corporatist, lobbyist written bills.

59. Get real
This is not some game that can be corrected any time soon. Obama voters will be there. You are in denial. Too many of us know that if the repubs control it all in 2012, the repubs will just want us to die and get out of the way.

Wake up.

61. Repugs just won Weiner's seat
Edited on Wed Sep-14-11 08:33 AM by JJW
A strongly democratic district, a seat held by a democrat for nearly 100 yrs. So who needs a reality check?

Are you calling in demanding more tax cuts for billionaires and millionaires, for more bailout of banks, for more free trade deals, for the Tar Sands Pipeline, for genetically engineered salmon, for more corporate polluted air?

63. Of course he gets it, which is why he is putting forward the most conservative bill that can't pass
He's campaigning again now that campaigning actually matters; he seems to understand better than a lot of DU that campaigning too long before an election is counterproductive.

69. So true
Now he needs to keep the momentum going.

The republibaggers are saying yesterday's elections were a reflection on President Obama's policies = there may have been some who believed that, but the majority only vote on who sounds the loudest and what they heard in the last 5 minutes.

The 2012 election season thanks to Citizens United is going to be long, dirty and very ugly.

but apparently, some(one?) in his administration said he wouldn't veto whatever COULD get passed, but Obama WANTS the whole bill passed.

81. Its about time...
Obama has been far too soft on the Tea Party Repubs. They pushed the stock market to the brink last month over petty issues and furthermore they're antagonizing the Chinese by threatening not to pay what they owe...
