22. Sorry but
vicious character assassination, mean spirited name-calling, exaggeration and flat out lying about policy, and attacks based on predictions or rumors made by irresponsible bloggers does not constitute "heated policy disputes."

What it does resemble, however, is the same caustic discourse of the teabaggers.

In the midst of a presidential election, throwing trash from the sidelines is what is out of place here, not the so-called cheerleading.

If I believed they were expressing their honest, constructive criticisms in good faith, it would be fine. But I don't. It's obvious to me that some are here for the sole purpose of injecting disruption and breeding cynicism. And it's not surprising that some long-standing, productive DUers are losing their patience.

You're going way overboard with this.

If someone is going to decide not to vote for this man because of something I said on a message board, they ain't too bright.

They had best be comparing the candidates who are in contention to occupy the White House after the 2012 election. Period.

I think that might be true.

I see that here on DU all the time.

Folks who clearly hate Obama scream bloody murder, and when they are called out, they claim "well, why should I vote for him when you are so mean to me!!!"

Talk about a weak position to hold!

"I won't vote for Obama because one of his supporters ON THE INTERNET, was NASTY to me!!!!"

What a %$#$%% ridiculous premise.

76. Where did I say that?
We already know you aren't canvassing for him, which is a good thing, given you disapprove of him so vehemently. We're much better off not having you out there.

And I have no issue with those who question his decisions. And its pretty easy to talk to some one who's disagreements are reasonable. And its impossible to talk to those who have already made up their mind.

So for instance, if you are canvassing, and you find yourself at the door of a tea party nut, rather than waste time trying to turn them around, its better to move on.

Same would be true if you encounter a member of the angry left who have already decided they won't vote for Obama.

Of course I'm not standing at your front door, and DU posts are not canvassing.

There are some people who consistently characterise reasoned disagreements as 'Obama bashing'. Well, gang, the welfare of the people of the USA and our collective interests -including the need for peace in this world- transcend risking the ire of the barack Obama fan club.

I doubt anybody seriously would advocate voting Republican (gag!) BUT we needn't be happy when we know we have gotten bamboozled by one of our own.

Here's hoping that you take some time off and reconsider. It's awfully tiring coming to this Democratic forum and seeing the same posters headlining with the same negative agendas every day. Conversely, your posts were something I look forward to.

This is a huge difference between constructive criticism and the daily posters who so thinly veil their true intent by trying to be so "helpful". Those posters will lose in the end; the people who enable them also have a lot to lose.

Got a revolution to finish documenting, but I need a serious break from the toxicity.

65. Awe Man!
Please....I don't want to say that they have won.....
although they certainly try very hard...

but no matter, we are all big losers if we all take flight,
although those facebook groups and other sites that I belong to
are actually quite the opposite! here there is too much cynicism....

I'm an optimist myself, as it is people like us that won women's right to vote,
and held on to the civil rights, till rights were realized!
It certainly weren't the negative naysayers.....those who could always find something wrong
with everything, and hang on to those thoughts like there was no tomorrow, when there really
was!

See you round! :hi:

66. *sigh* I know. DU seems to echo what is happening in the country.
It's a vicious circle that no one seems willing to break and the disruptors are more than willing to reinforce.

Peace out, Peacetrains. Here's to doing more and freaking less.

84. What I fail to understand is how all this activity actually works to make people turn to the 'R' lol
Edited on Sat Sep-10-11 11:29 AM by Sheepshank
All the disruptors attempts to interject anti-Obama sentiment, really don't make me want to vote "R". They just make me want to leave and find something more compatible with my POV re: Obama. In fact if anything, hackles go up and I dig in my heels. But maybe that's just me.

The continued anti-Obama sentiments are rarely couched as constructive critisms are clearly not healthy to the Democratic party and simply do little else than demolish the DU experience. I've other alternative BB's to visit, and slowly that attendance is increaing while here, I am getting to the point where I want to do little else than bicker and get annoyed at the petty divisivness being implemented by obvious Rovians. DU really isn't turning 'R' imho, but it's turning toxic to honest debate and exchange of 'D' ideas and support, and that is a truly a shame.

90. Clarification: By "disruptors" I mean those whose purpose is to disrupt debate.
I apprecite questioning and even revolution but this endless circling the wagons and firing inward leaves us wounded and easy pickings for those who in fact are here to troll or get off on disrupting.

But the Peacetrain can pull into another station and be at home with those who support Democrats. See you soon!

86. Yes, I See So Many Have Already Left Here... I Post Less & Less Myself...
And just last night I was checking out other places. But mostly I'm thinking I don't want to post much of anything anywhere. I've looked at so many names here, and so many are missing.

I think this REALLY is very telling. Many of us are simply fed up and no longer feel much passion. I know I've stopped watching the news like I used to. I don't read the papers like I used to, and I've canceled all my political magazines too. It's very frustrating because so many of us have come to believe that we really CAN'T make a difference anymore. I don't know THIS Democratic Party much anymore.

I've said it to my kids and many others that it's time for the "newbies" to pick up the mantel and carry on. I still check in here and post, and I check another place too, but it's less and less.

Color me APATHETIC! I understand Peacetrain!

97. I Was Only Making My Own Comments... I Think I've Read Enough Of
Peacetrain's posts to know where she stands. I'm not sure we're always on the same page. I was simply reflecting on how I feel.

I mean no harm, I just feel so defeated and alone so much of the time anymore. I've been trying very hard NOT to get myself too worked up because it hurts a lot. We've become very fractured and I have no answers.

Thankfully, I'm able to watch a LOT of tennis as an alternative, which is something I really enjoy. My personal feelings are that we as a nation have lost our rudder and are swirling round and round not knowing where we're going.

Too many of our citizens vote against their own best interests, and our leaders do NOTHING but play games. Not sure if they're playing Dodge Ball or Paint Ball! I've always felt that activism was the best way to affect change, but given what I've seen in just the last 10 to 12 years I've begun to see I'm no longer able to generate much activism at all. I've said it many times here that I can't get 20/30 people together to do anything in my area, so yes... it's APATHETIC to me.

More and more when I talk with people they just look at me and say I'm fighting a losing battle and they pretty much dismiss me out of hand. Sooooooooooooo, it has made me feel that voicing my opinion or trying to fight back against TPTB is like spitting into the wind.

And, NO I DO NOT like feeling this way and never thought I would be talking like this. I'm a Boomer who once believed, but now it seems to many that we are NOT NEEDED!

Sorry if I offended you, it was not my intent.
