Global Trade Watch: Urge your congressman to vote 'no' on Obama/GOP NAFTA-style trade deals

From Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch email-letter I subscribe to. However, It's necessary to add the "GOP" here, as the latest email from GTW fails to emphasize (though they usually do) that the Republicans are just as eager as the Obama administration is in pursuing these middle-class-destroying "trade" agreements pushed by the US Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable; Obama is not solely to blame here.

How will I pay my rent or mortgage? How am I going to feed my family? Will my daughter be able to return to college in the fall? Questions like these are asked daily by 6.2 million unemployed Americans.

Horrifyingly, in the midst of America’s unemployment crisis, the Obama administration is pushing three NAFTA-style trade deals with Korea, Colombia and Panama that place more American jobs at risk.

Your member of Congress needs to know that his or her constituents expect a “no” vote on all three of these job-killing deals. Only Congress can stop this lunacy and only you can ensure there is a majority in Congress to say no.

I just don't understand what the point is anymore. At what point do we start making high quality American goods. Cars, furniture, construction materials... I could go on and on and will if people request. At what point do we support a fairly simple jobs plan that takes advantage of a weak dollar and puts people to work? Wait, we'll all fall over ourselves to defeat a proposal by a Democratic President. And NOTHING gets accomplished. Never mind that the originator of Free trade, Clinton, finished his term WITH A SURPLUS. A surplus that the Republicans somehow managed to turn into a negative in Gore's "LOCKBOX" speech.

I seriously wonder, at what point, progressive leadership will turn to themselves and say, "So are we finished shooting each other in the fucking head yet?"

However, the part about wanting to increase the amount slashed from the budget by the new cat food commission for the same amount as this jobs plan is a bad idea.

That just adds to the problem as that money will come out of the safety net that will be needed by people over the coming years.
