Harry Reid asks senators to do their job. David Vitter cries about it.

by Jed Lewison

Poor David Vitter. He'd planned on showing his contempt for President Obama by skipping tonight's job's speech in favor of returning to Louisiana to host a party for the NFL season opener featuring the New Orleans Saints. But then mean old Harry Reid did the unthinkable. He actually gave senators some work to do.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has scheduled a vote for Thursday to proceed on a measure related to the country’s debt – a can’t-miss vote for most members.

The timing of the vote? Right after Obama’s 7 p.m. jobs speech.

And as a result, David Vitter had to cancel his plans. Now he's crying about it:

Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), who had sent an e-mail to supporters Wednesday trumpeting his decision to skip the speech and host a New Orleans Saints party instead, said Thursday that he would remain in Washington for the speech and vote – but he was not pleased to be doing so.

In a second e-mail to supporters and in messages on Twitter and Facebook, Vitter accused Reid of playing politics by scheduling the debt vote for Thursday night.

“Typical Harry Reid,” Vitter wrote to supporters in a message with the subject line, “More Scheduling Hijinks.” “He’s now scheduled votes that should’ve been held this morning for right before and right AFTER prez’s speech. Pens in those who would have skipped speech, like me. So now I’ll miss my own Saints game party at home. <...>

Typical Republican asshole!

1. That's funny as hell actually
Anytime Harry can poke a puke in the eye I'm all for it. I can only imagine how much crying Vitter would have done if any Dem had dared skip out on a shrub speech to attend an idiotic party.

6. Excellent point!
You can bet that if this had happened with Bush, not only would the republicans in congress be screaming, but fox news, and every one of the talking head morons, Beck and Limbaugh for example, would be having a cow about the "disrespect" they were showing the president. Same goes for all the right win bloggers who go apeshit when something like this happens to a right winger!

9. They did the same sort of thing dozens if not hundreds
of time during the dark ages of shrubbo.

It usually went along the lines of:

How dare "insert person or people being derided" criticize, demean, insult or whatever the President of the United States during
a) a time of war
b) while he is out of country
c) during a period of economic insecurity
c) on the crapper
d-z) etc.

One of the fantastic aspects of being a repuke is the unbelievable ability to be a hypocritical asshole and then lie about and defend yourself while the original footage proving them to be hypocritical assholes is playing on a screen behind them.

4. So he has to work instead of going to a party because the guy who runs the place is making him work.
He could skip the vote and still go to his party, though, so he has a choice. Why doesn't he want to make the choice?
