It becomes more clear that Perry should be the nominee. Here's why:

1 He says very extreme things that many other Republicans having been saying for a while, but he doesn't do it in code, which makes the distinction between the parties more clear

2 He is saying what the flat Earth base of their party wants to hear. Romney is not- and will cling to his "centrist" comments if he (Romney) does make it through the primaries. The fact that Perry doubles and triples down on ridiculous out of the mainstream comments, plus has that gem of a book is a real gift to Democrats.

3 Perry also doubles down because he believes his confident flat Earth stupidity is not just the GOP base, but what would sell to the real middle America. Can't wait to see that in a general election.

It's absolutely painful to hear Perry talk, but it's necessary because he makes the choices more clear than anyone before him. Why else would Rove be freaking out? That's not how you do you things. You're supposed to talk in code.
Perry is too fucking arrogant and stupid to do that. yes Romney was better than him last night.

Why the hell would we want a slightly more intelligent used car salesman as the GOP nominee? Yes there is plenty of good stuff to campaign with on Romney, but nowhere near as good as what Perry brings.

Bring on the Puritan.

This, no doubt, is why Ed and likely others suggest that Perry can still be the nominee for them.

1. I can see him getting the nomination
The teabaggers seem to be in control of the nominating process so unless more moderate Republicans get out and vote in the Primaries I think Perry will be the nominee.

As disillusioned as people seem to be with Obama, I can't see them turning out in droves and voting for this intellectually empty crackpot.

2. I agree with you

3. Made me stop and think
I made some similar comments today, that he would be a great nominee because Obama would wouldn't even have to run to reelection. But, you are right, sometimes we see things in a prism and we might get what we wish for. I think Huntsman would be a better choice for them, but they won't listen to me.

4. I think about that too, but
he is not Reagan or even W or most others who serious (as in possibility to be the nominee or were the nominee) in that he says that that are very much out of the mainstream. He confuses Texas wingnuts with the American public and the GOP has been over reaching already and we've seen how that is played out - this is the natural extension of that.

5. I always say, be careful what you wish for. What he says is not
as important as overall image. Americans like tough
unabashed leaders. Perry comes off, as Gergen describes
it more delicately than I, "There is a muscular presence
with him.:

While some DUers, may not like it, Hoffa has an appeal
broadly that a more gentle soul ever would.

For example, Kerry lost the election because he lacked
the "toughness" gene.

America does not want a president the other party can kick
around.

Say all the way out things you wish, but do not let others
push you around.

Romney showed he coud toughen up. The people are waiting
to see how Perry continues.

6. He needs Florida and any other state with a large group of retirees.
Just listening to friends this morning, he's toast..As one of them says, he's so stupid, the road to win an election goes right through Florida, right down to Miami Beach...LOL.

Would you rather have Perry or Romney for 8 years?
