Really Eerie, but maybe it's just a Coincidence!
Edited on Thu Sep-08-11 12:52 PM by FrenchieCat
I live in the Bay Area. Today, unlike most days, I have to work about an hour's drive away from my home, and I have to work at least 7 hours, once I get there.

Sooo, before leaving, I decided to DVR the President's speech, since I won't be able to watch it live.

I go to my television, and move forward to 4:00 p.m. (7:00 eastern) so that I can tape it both on C-Span and on MSNBC.

Strangely, at exactly the 4:00 p.m. time slot, my Comcast programming states "To be Announced" on all programs from 4:00 p.m. on. When programming is in that status, one cannot record via a DVR that channel. The option is just not available.

So I called Viacom to explain what was happening, and they said they would try and fix it.

I told them that I just found it odd, that non-program accessibility occurs exactly as the President will be addressing the nation, and that on the West Coast, that is a time when most folks will still be at work. Told them that these days, I'm suspicious of just about everything, and that this just seem oddly coincidental, as I don't know how many people may have tried to do what I did, and ran into the same problem.

Anyways, I just found it weird, although, perhaps it is just coincidental that I would have problems with a corporation like Comcast.

If anyone has Comcast, please let me know if you are having a similar difficulty, or if it is just my house.

As I am working, I'll just check in, to see if there are any responses.

Thanks!

:hi:

1. Creepy. But it IS Comcast.
They just about doubled my rates because I want news from sources other than Fox.

I don't have recording ability, but Comcast here in Colorado has the Presidential address listed in the time slot.

2. Another left coaster here.
I'm on DISH, just checked the schedule for 4:00. C-Span lists Presidential Address then, MSNBC still has Hardball listed. Last night, Keith Olbermann said they'd be covering the President's speech on Current, with discussion afterwards.

Hope you get to watch it!

3. Thanks.
I can always watch it on the Internet, but I like watching those kind of events
on my television if I can.

4. Unless you're still under contract with them, I'd switch to another provider toot sweet.
I finally got fed up with Comcast a few months ago and got DirecTV. Never looked back. Well, I forgot to watch all of my recorded episodes of Justified before turning in my dvr but other than that, I'm glad to be done with price-gouging Comcast. They really are a horrible, nasty business.

6. Yes...We do pay an awful lot every month....
Plus I hate the fact that my internet and telephone service is provided by them.

I may talk to my hubby and see about changing some of that. Doing business with just
one giant corporation, when I don't have is probably not a good idea,
as I am contributing to the very real possibility of fascism that is coming to
a large flat screen near me.

7. Yah, that all-in-one business makes you vulnerable.
They have you by the kenerkies, as my dad used to say :)

8. The speech is at 4:00 pm PST?
A lot of people on the west coast are gonna miss it.

Boehner must be laughing.

9. Why should Boehner be laughing? Is the chamber jumbotron broken?
Afterall, the president's audience tonight is the US Congress, is it not?

10. I don't have DVR.
I generally am happy with Comcast, though.
I am at work as well so I can't check my TV to see what the guide says.
Hopefully the problem can be resolved.

I am not a big fan of "to be announced". I like having the guide. And when it's not working, I'm not very happy! Yes, there's more important things to worry about, but when you pay good money for cable it should work right!
