Sickening NO FOLLOW up by Brian Williams. You suck, man.
Edited on Wed Sep-07-11 10:09 PM by Laura PourMeADrink
Asking Perry about the death penalty and his weak response on "Texas Justice".

** No follow-up to point out that the murder rate is higher at 5.4% per 100k people in Texas than most states with NO death penalty, so the death penalty is no deterrent
http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/murder-rates-nationally-and-state#MRord

** No follow-up to point out that there is an innocent man,Cameron Todd Willingham. who Perry put to death - accused of arson that was based on arson science which became obsolete and Perry knew the arson science was outdated and wrong at the time of execution.

Asking Perry about the uninsured:

** No follow-up to the point that 25% of Texas is uninsured. Perry blamed the Federal Government (amazingly). No question like, "Do you think it's wrong that 25% of your people are uninsured? Explain further why the Feds are responsible? And what exactly are you doing about it."

1. Brian Williams is a celebrity not a journalist.
His many appearances on NBC comedy shows attest to that.

2. Brian Williams is conceited. Thinks of himself as being indispensable.
On a Letterman he bragged that he carries his passport with him at all times.

3. I normally like Brian Williams, but that was bad.
No follow-up is inexcusable right there.

4. I think he made a great point to astute viewers.
...when he expressed his amazement that the audience was applauding record number executions.

I'm not sure he could make the point that Perry and the Republicans at large are outside the mainstream better.

I'm also sure that anyone without extreme republicanism understood that Perry failed at supplying health care in Texas. We can't help the afflicted who filtered out what they didn't want to hear. They assume the uninsured are people they don't like anyway.

I was more bothered when Perry switched to bashing the administration over border security. He carped about how he wanted federal troops sent to Texas right after preaching about state's rights. Williams could have asked him if he still commanded a Lone Star National Guard unit, and why they can't do the job.

7. Sad though...most people probably don't give a shit that people
have no health care. If I was Romney, I would have said, "Sure we had problems with healthcare in Massachusetts, but I am proud to say, all our citizens now have it an that is the Christian way to act."

Yes, border security, Perry is full of contradictions.

And, BW and Politico let him get away with it. Only the intelligent people (dems) figured that out....the others have to be told.

6. I don't think that was the place to follow up on the Cameron
Willingham issue. He would have hidden behind (as a matter of fact he did) that "Texas does it right, they can take it all the way to the Supreme Court if they want" stuff, and it would be better to address that when it's one-on-one and there's time to keep on it. This wasn't an interview, but a debate with others on the stage.

I'm pretty sure if he gets the nomination it will become a BIG issue --

8. I hope so..the whole thing makes me sick. Did you read John
Grisham's latest novel, The Confession?? All about the death penalty in Texas...makes you want to be a dedicated abolitionist.

9. No - I haven't read it yet. Sometimes I steer clear of his
courtroom novels because it just shows me how the system really works and that really upsets me. And I'm sure I'll react as you did. :grr:

10. You are right..but this book really gets you going
and offers ideas on what you can actually about it.

It's funny, when I was very young, the death penalty was a cause celebre among liberals.

I have often thought, over the years, when I didn't pay enough attention...what the hell happened?...why does no one mention it anymore? Why do our Democratic leaders never mention it?

If I had enough money, I would buy this book for anyone who reads.

14. That's what I'm afraid of -- it'll get me going. Another outrage
that I feel helpless to change.

But I really like his writing, and I ALWAYS learn a lot, so I'm sure I'll get it. Maybe now a little sooner with your nudging. :7 :hi:

which I hadn't before.

I like 'em both!

13. Williams couldn't do any of your
suggested follow-up points because Williams does not have that information, nor does he care to!

17. Williams is a huge fan of Smirk, and so
is probably pulling for Perry. His "interviews" with Goodhair will probably be nothing more than free campaign stops.
