Perry is toast
Edited on Wed Sep-07-11 09:54 PM by Laura PourMeADrink
He is a freakin moron.

For anyone with a whole brain...He said "We done it in Texas"

For anyone with half a brain..He said "Social Security is a ponzi scheme." Idiotic,
since many, many people with half brains are ON Social Security.

Our opponent will be Mittens.

1. I think you're right. Many keep saying he never backs down from
his positions and they admire that. That well may be true, but does he REALLY think he's going to win any votes in FL. with his Ponzi scheme story? Honestly, I almost hope he does win the nomination. He's lost the senior vote, his attitude about capital punishment lost him a number of other votes, and I suspect many indie's just won't vote for another cowboy!

he couldn't possibly win a general.

Do hope you are right though. I can not think of a single thing other than a Yankees World Series game that would be more entertaining than an Obama Perry Debate.

With the possible exception of some things Huntsman said, how could Mitten's have had any other expression on his face the entire debate? That was some sad stuff.

given that he just came out with it less than a year ago. It's not like critics will have to hunt hard or to go way back in his career to dig all his crazy crap skeletons up. He won't be able to claim any of it as ancient history, and he'll have to answer for it in present tense.

"A treasure trove for foes."

Plus. Karl favors Romney. Nobody should underestimate the Rove machinery and the rest of the old crew and all the old bad blood. Even without the benefit of the book. He hasn't been doing all that money raising to see it blown.

Rove's already attacking him and pointing out the stuff in his book.

Most of all, he doesn't want to see the GOP richies' donar money siphoned off from his American Crossroads Network and start going to Perry's campaign, which reportedly has already started happening.

Plus there was already Bachmann to make Romney look half sane :-)

9. I thought Romney came out ahead as
#1 he has a vocabulary larger than 100 words.

#2 Perry answered many questions saying the same answer 6x

#3 Between the whole "Ponzi scheme" and the awkward embarrassing answer regarding climate change, Perry is one dumb motherfucker.

#4 He did not claim to be a teabagger.

Huntsman sounded saner that the rest but seemed very orange.

As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

like recently, the radio blowhard Dennis Prager played a clip of some black athlete using nonstandard English in an interview, and went on about how it's a discredit to his race, etc.

Well, here's a freaking Governor, running for freaking President, and no one says a peep about him. Is he a discredit to white people?

33. I hope so, but
it's way to early to tell. I hope Romney is the nominee. I think it would be easier to defeat Perry, but if Obama end up losing, I'd rather have Romney (I was going to type "president" in front of his name, but I just could NOT) than Perry. I do think that Perry would make us think back at the shrubby years with sweet nostalgy, while Romney would most likely be similar to papa Bush, bad but survivable.

36. As Fugelsang said this morning, people will RESPECT the fact that George W. Perry...
..."doubled down" on the "Social Security is a ponzi scheme" bullshit - even if they like Social Security. Because people like leaders who stand strong on their values. Remember:

1. What does a political candidate need to do to win voter confidence?
2. What are the traps that cause political candidates to lose credibility among the populace?

The short answer to the first question is that voters must identify with the candidate. Four things come together for this to happen. These things are values, connection, authenticity, and trust. The candidate must talk about values when discussing issues to consciously articulate the concerns that lead to political positions. The candidate must communicate values effectively to connect with people. This requires the speaker to always appear authentic so that they seem to believe what they say. A candidate who talks about values and connects with people in an authentic way will build trust, which encourages voters to select them over other candidates.

The second question can only be answered by understanding a few discoveries from the cognitive sciences about the human mind. It is not simply a matter of the policies a candidate supports. The merits of one policy over another will not win the hearts and minds of supporters who are looking for a leader that resonates with their hopes and protects them from their fears. No, what people look for in a leader is a moral connection...

Come on now. By next spring when they will be seriously involved with the primary process this one debate will be long forgotten. For the record, I doubt if Perry will get the nomination either, but it's too early to know for sure and we certainly can't make any definitive conclusions from one debate.

He was a deer in headlights most of the time. (this could change)

He doesn't have it. And months and months are not going to change that.

Mittens will get it (unless some powerhouse moderate jumps in).
