Pelosi on Boehner's refusal to respond to the President's jobs speech
Pelosi on Lack of Response to President’s Address on Jobs: GOP Silence Will Speak Volumes About Their Lack of Commitment to Creating Jobs

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement following an announcement by Speaker Boehner’s office that no Republican will deliver a formal response to President Obama’s address to a Joint Session of Congress on Thursday:

“The Republicans’ refusal to respond to the President’s proposal on jobs is not only disrespectful to him, but to the American people.

“In nearly 250 days of being in the Majority, House Republicans have not passed a single piece of legislation to create jobs. The Republican silence on Thursday evening will speak volumes about their lack of commitment to creating jobs.”

Boehner is scared! He knows millions will be watching and doesn't want to go on record opposing the proposal, especially when the GOP alternative only benefits the wealthy.

1. Will they?
The speech is at 7 PM eastern time. Nobody from the West coast will be watching at 4 in the afternoon, and the number of non-activist viewers watching a pre-primetime speech could be marginal.

4. They may not watch it live
or the full speech, but they will see/hear the main points one way or another. If they care at all.

2. The Republican Rebuttal (if they could tell the truth):
"We don't care, have no plan or ideas, but are against anything Obama said. In a day or two, as soon as Rush and some other pundits have checked what will stick, we plan on snipping about points of Obama's speech. Until then, we propose tax cuts on corporations."

3. I'd like to see a progressive response or rebuttal to Obama's speech.
If Bachmann can give a TP response to the SOTU, the Grijalva or Ellison can give a response by the Progressive Caucus.

5. Would you consider for a moment
that maybe they do NOT want to? That maybe, just maybe, they are more responsible than people posting on blogs?

6. So you would have Dems REBUT the Dem President's talk?
And do the work of the GOP for them?

The point of Bachmann rebutting the SOTU is that she is GOP.

I don't get your reasoning.

15. Yeah, I get the anti-Obama agenda
I suppose it makes sense if all you're thinking about is to take out the POTUS from the Left.

But as another poster said, the Progressive caucus probably has better sense than to make a public display of nipping at the President's heels on such a major issue.

10. I thought they were rebutting a week later.
But maybe I misread or am mis-remembering? I hate that every major speech is rebutted. I don't remember that happening with any other president.

12. If I remember correctly, Boehner is supposed
to give a speech (national press club, I think) a week later.

13. I called Sen Corker's office and told the lady that everyone should
be attending the jobs speech. I told them it is childish and disrespectful that republicans are showing the office of the president and they should be ashamed. I told the lady that the president represents all of us. You don't have to like the person but you need to show respect of the office. She thanked me and she said she would pass it on.
