1. We know that and Obama knows that, but I kind of understand
his dilemma. What steps could he actually take without the votes from Congress?

They have us over a barrel. I hate them.

And for those who say "he didn't do any better when we had the House" - the Senate was always standing by to filibuster, and we couldn't get ONE Republican vote in either chamber.

3. must understand that what you just wrote...
will not make any sense to the irrational Obama haters (makes a hell of alot of sense to me and many others here who understand the political realities of our time).

4. In that case, he should swing for the fences
Try to hit the home run ball! Sling that Hail Mary pass!

If it is a foregone conclusion that they are going to reject everything he offers, then he should be countering with a huge proposal like a Marshall Plan for the unemployed. Better to prove he is on our side than implement another losing Republican plan that only makes things worse.

I want contrast -- a bona fide difference between the two parties laid out in clear terms. If the GOP is hell bent on stopping everything through 2012, then declare war on Thursday and let the battle for 2012 begin. I would rather see the president fighting on behalf of the American people than capitulating to a bunch of corrupt legislative mercenaries.
