Obama Is Making The Pivot
Edited on Mon Sep-05-11 03:41 PM by RBInMaine
Did you see the Labor Day Speech today? He's back, and with unending chants of "4 More Years" it appears the labor base is with him because they know the alternative. It was another great Obama speech that clearly spelled out the right narrative: "I have already passed many important pro-jobs/pro-middle class laws, and now I am going to present a new jobs plan, and if you RePubs are actually serious about creating jobs, then put your votes where your mouths are." Coupled with, "ALL Americans do better when people have decent jobs with decent wages and benefits because that creates DEMAND which grows the economy. We want the people who make the cars to be able to buy those cars." (That was an allusion to what Henry Ford said long ago.) And "No more games. No more phony crises. No more putting party ahead of country. I am not going to wait for you to play games. I am going to take it TO you and hold you accountable to the American people."

If Obama plays this right Thursday night, properly challenges the GOP, and stays on message afterward all over the country, then he fires up the base, puts the Pukes on defense, and cruises to re-election.

He needs to be on HARD OFFENSE now, and CLEAR as CRYSTAL with the narrative. And it looks like he is going to trap them with POPULAR proposals and ones that most Republicans SHOULD be able to support.

So with today's address, it looks like he's ready to make the pivot from mere "transactional compromiser" to "Clear and Strong Jobs Champion On Offense."

Staying clear and on message is everything. He needs to keep the bastards on DEFENSE. If he does what he said he was going to do today, it's gonna get fun fast. :-)

3. Yes, that means taking the message national. But, remember, Congress has to MAKE the laws and PASS
them. He knows they won't do much since the Pukes control the House. What he is doing is setting up the narrative and setting them up for an ass-whooping at the ballot box.

9. You're right, it's more important to campaign for a Dem Congress this time than for President.
Edited on Mon Sep-05-11 04:06 PM by ClassWarrior
I'll gladly vote for him again, but you yourself said he's "setting them up for an ass-whooping at the ballot box," so he doesn't need me knocking doors this time.

7. Go National, Yes
he also needs to back up those words with actions, such as protecting SS & Medicare (they need to be off the table). He needs to come out strongly for EFCA, even if it won't get anywhere and the Bush era tax cuts need to go away. I understand losing a fight, I just don't understand not showing up.

It will take much more than one speech on Labor day for him to get my vote again.

14. Ditto.
My rep is fairly liberal & neither of my senators are up for re-election. My 2012 dollars & energy will go to help liberals in districts that need help, & for local candidates & issues.

We've heard the soaring speech & seen what follows.

And a hell of a lot of people here on DU and elsewhere have been saying it. Thus far we haven't seen much evidence that he has been paying attention but these remarks indicate maybe he has finally woke up.

I remain skeptical but ever hopeful.

Usually CampaignObama makes the speeches, while PresidentObama lays back and does the dirtywork.

44. I forgot the sarcasm smiley.
The thing is this: we know from 2008, as you so rightly point out, that he does know how to do politics, he is the first black President and he kicked some ass doing it. Which is why we are puzzled by the appearance of weakness and appeasement since 2010. What is the plot of the drama being enacted for us? What is the goal the President pursues for the 2012 election? Is it simply to get re-elected, or does he want it all? Will he get what he wants? Hmmmm ...

43. I do. I can't understand a word he says.
He might as well be talking like the parents in a Peanuts cartoon, because that's about what I get from listening to him. To be fair, there were a number of teachers in school that I couldn't understand either. I know I'm not the only one, since there were quite a few interviews after his rally's where people were asked about what he said, and they didn't know. He seems to wander around in circles to get to some point, but by the time he's gotten there, I've forgotten what point he was trying to make. And, yes, reading him is just as bad.

37. Will his convictons hold under criticism?
When facing members of congress who want nothing other than to see his destruction....will his convictions hold? Will we see him impassioned, angry, righteous? Will we see a president who has been confrontation averse for his whole presidency now evolve into something else?

I hope we do.

Because the GOP will never support anything Obama proposes. And if Obama is still looking for that magic fairy dust to sprinkle on them to force them into doing their jobs - he will flounder, and America will continue to slide sideways.

They put party before nation - every single time. They even did so when Obama wanted to address congress - and was forced to change his date because the GOP wanted to watch the presidential GOP debate instead...of actually doing the job of governance.

The time for games is over. Oh - by the way - a clear champion of Jobs does not use a wet noodle as "tax cuts" as a sword of champions. Free Trade agreements are job killers, not creators.
