The WHOLE WORLD is Watching The GOP Disrespect Our President
From ALJAZEERA

Speech debacle latest embarrassment for Obama
Some analysts say US president has seen more disrespect than any other recent leader.

When the president of the United States says he wants to address Congress, it is not normally up for discussion, but then again, these are far from normal times in Washington.

Barack Obama is being criticised for agreeing to reschedule a major economic speech, because Republicans effectively told him they had other plans.

Some analysts believe he has seen more disrespect than any other president in recent memory.

1. They must wonder why he doesn't pull rank on them.
At least once in a while. The GOP is gonna complain about him anyway.

It is embarrassing and it could undermine his stature as a world leader. This is why I, for one, have been begging him to push back. It's very very important that he does, and soon. Unless he's somehow trying to lose the election, this strategy is not working. He has no control over the other party, so the change can come only from him.

2. He could NOT pull rank regarding the speech in the House chamber
It is The House that has to vote on a Joint Session Resolution that gives the permission for a president to come to The House Chamber to give a speech.

Without The (GOP) House voting on the resolution and passing it then there can not be a speech given in the chamber.

4. What Alternatives Did He Have?
Under current rules, the house has to approve the request for the joint chamber meeting. What would you have him do? Call for a press conference at the same time? Present his plan directly to the people pointing out that it was being done over Republican objections. The house might then pass his agenda, maybe/maybe not.

14. What alternative did he have on trashing air quality standards? The House had...

...nothing to do with that decision.

5. Those who are saying "what choice did he have?"
are part of the problem. You are as weak and unimaginative as BO. There were a ton of choices on how to respond.

Ask yourselves what would Truman do? What would FDR do? They wouldn't take disrespect lying down. That is why Obama is treated the way he is. And until he changes that, it will continue to happen. He let's them get away with it time after time.

13. Exactly. They did not have to deal with this situation.
They were used to being treated with respect. In that era, privileged white men just didn't have to deal with such treatment, ever.

8. You Failed To
Pick up on my tongue in cheek suggestion that Obama stick it in the republican eye. Sorry for my poor choice of words.

It's not likely that the Republicans will pass what he suggests anyway.

9. Or Reagen ...
I mean, all he has to do is shout, "TEAR THE WALL DOWN!" and the Soviet Union would crumble ...

:eyes:

Do people even have the first clue when they have jumped the shark to being republican like in their thinking?

10. COMMANDER IN CHIEF!
You can't criticize the COMMANDER IN CHIEF while troops are in the field!

THAT was the line that right wingers drew for 6 years, and the media carried water for that bullspit, too.

You were unamerican and putting our troops in danger if you so much as said Bush had a bad hair day.

I said all of that would go out the window in January of 2009 before BO even won election.

Just bizarre that the same "liberal media" that advanced that meme for over half a decade now allows the nonstop, relentless and mindless attacks on this president.

11. Gotta give Obama one thing: He's THREE times the war president that W was.
Edited on Sat Sep-03-11 07:53 AM by Divernan
And his warlike tendencies are what the rest of the world disrespects.

You see, the other industrialized countries think the US is batshit crazy to squander our national wealth and youth on a policy of eternal warfare, instead of providing a decent quality of life/healthcare/good public education/restoring crumbling infrastructure, etc.

And the third world countries see a US president making lots of war/sending lots of drones/continuing rendions to attack brown-skinned people. Not at all what THEY expected from a Democratic president and particularly the first black president.

How do they know how anyone else would handle this level of disrespect?

16. How would anyone else know
How to deal with constant death threats (on Obama and his family)?

I'm grateful that he is even willing to run for re-election.

15. There is no penalty for disrespecting Obama.
He rewards such behavior, and therefore invites it.

Exhibit A: Benjamin "Shut up and give us money and your UN vote" Netanyahu.

Exhibit B: Eric "No new revenue for deficit reduction and stop regulating Ozone" Cantor.

Strong leaders earn respect by providing incentives to show that respect.

In case he hasn't somehow noticed this yet.
