Wingunts praying Psalm 109:8 for President Obama - “Let His Days Be Few”

Psalm 109:8 “Let His Days Be Few”

An anti-Obama bumper-sticker slogan which seems to urge people to pray for an end to the President’s days (in office?).

“There’s a hilarious new meme in the wingnut sectors of the internet,” Gawker announced:

Posters to various message boards tell stories of seeing bumper stickers with the message “Pray for Obama – Psalm 109:8” on the highway, only to look up the verse and find, “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.” …

Anyway, now it’s a real thing: CafePress is selling T-shirts and bumper stickers, the Christian Science Monitor is wondering whether it’s “funny or sinister” to pray for Obama’s death, and Rachel Maddow referenced it last night on her show.

However, as a number of commentators have noted, the wording that follows this bumper-sticker appeal is somewhat more disturbing:

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labor.
Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children.
Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth

Psalm 109
(A psalm by David for the music leader.)

Ah ha! Did you catch that? This is a prayer-song written by King David for his music director, who was obviously a good person. The first few stanzas are about the music director's virtuous responses in the face of cruel persecution.

A Prayer for the LORD's Help

1 I praise you, God!
Don't keep silent.

2 Destructive and deceitful lies
are told about me,

3 and hateful things are said
for no reason.

4 I had pity and prayed for my enemies,
but their words to me
were harsh and cruel.

5 For being friendly and kind,
they paid me back
with meanness and hatred.

"OK, who does that sound like? Obama is the face of world diplomacy today, he's the poster child of being "friendly and kind." Meanwhile "destructive and deceitful lies are told about" him, "hateful things said for no reason." Has the far right ever been friendly and kind? Have they ever had pity on their enemies (and victims)? Um, no. That is why this psalm is not about them. But it could be about Obama."

It goes on...

3. that's really slick because it can be interpreted another way
"let his days be few" doesn't necessarily have to mean his days on earth, a teabagger could say it means his days in office. It purposefully leaves out verse 9 however, which gets to the heart of what that chapter is about.

17. I know. But they count on MOST people not reading the scripture that comes after it
so they miss the context. They're fooled into thinking it's a nice little prayer for Obama, when it's really a threat against his life.

19. Isn't that why they specifically cite 109.8
and NOT 109.9?
It would seem so to the less hysteric.

6. Their god is impotent...has no power...
and they will rend their clothing and gnash their teeth wondering why their god never answers their prayers.

7. Let responsible Christianity wish those evil ones to fucking hell.
It is time, to take white america to task. They spew hate at responsible Islamics, because they dont throw their bodies in front of suicide bombers. Now it is time, to ask how responsible christians can look away, as their own, are treasonous, at least in desire. White Christians are heretofore deemed abortian doctor assassines. Till they put muscle behind a condemnation. And I am Christian.

If Jesus was within arms length, he would bitch smack these punks. They take it as tacit apporoval of the Christ that he doesn't.

18. Bible Fail
I can't stand these folks! They clearly failed Reading Comp 1 from kiddie school thru high school.

I have a name for these folks: Cut-and-Paste Christians !
They're like the kidnappers who cut words and letters out of newspapers to use to make ransom notes, but they're using Bible quotes.

This is partially why I gave up on church. I don't have time for people who can't read and surely don't need someone else to explain to me some thing that I can read myself (though it is helpful). I surely don't want to wind up attending a church that sends MY money to groups that support this kinda crap.
