An Observation On The Speech Scheduling Kerfuffle

Quite obviously, if the President had requested a time slot prior to the opening NFL kickoff, what we would have right now is a full throated excoriation of him having selected that time in order to squelch a Republican response since NFL airtime is inviolate.

So, instead, he had the GOP leadership sign off on that time slot.

I really don't see why anyone is upset with the way this went down.

He gets a bigger audience than he would otherwise, the House leadership approved it, and the GOP doesn't get a response.

What's not to like?

1. To be upset over the change of date is nothing less than childish

2. The only thing that really bothers me about the whole thing is that
generally Presidents are granted their date to address Congress, no matter who is Speaker. I feel that in denying Obama's request, Boner basically told him "Sit down, BOY, you'll speak when I give you permission."

4. And that is plainly obvious to everyone else

One of the reasons for McCain's poor showing in the presidential debates was that viewers were apparently turned off by what was perceived as a personal dislike of Obama by McCain.

That perception - that President Obama is being treated rudely - helps Obama, not his opponents.

3. I hope it makes more people watch the GOP debate.
Not enough people understand how crazy they all are.

5. I have to agree with you there
Most of my family (the elder ones anyway) think the repub field consists of reasonable people.

Maybe this will make them sit up and take notice.

6. Personally, I think it may have been better
to wait until the 9/11 hoopla is over.
