I'm looking for something positive about all this.
And I can't find nuthin.'

Obama caves. He's giving a speech at the same time that the Super Bowl teams of 2011 will kick off the season in what should be an exciting game that every legitimate football fan will watch.

So no one except us political junkies will watch him (and I'm not even sure I will).

What a way to kick off his jobs campaign.

He looks like such a wimp, and in politics, perception is everything.

And what the hey is his staff doing? Couldn't they have seen how this would have played out - BEFORE they went public with the Sept. 7 date?

Packers beat Steelers.

edit: It's a game between the past two SB winners.

2. I don't watch football OR Republican debates
Edited on Wed Aug-31-11 10:56 PM by frazzled
I don't watch football because I hate football.

And I don't watch Republican debates because the only reason to watch a debate is to responsibly determine who to vote for. Since there's no way in hell I'll ever vote for a Republican, it's completely unnecessary to put myself through that slop out of curiosity. Reading about it in the morning papers is perfectly fine for keeping up to date.

That said, I don't understand this Obama "caves" thing. He requested the time, as per Constitutional precedent. The Speaker said no. What's he gonna do--go beat him up to change his mind?

I fault Obama here for not getting a firm agreement beforehand on the date. This shouldn't have played out in public. (Of course, getting an agreement from John Boehner is not worth the paper its printed on.)

4. It really doesn't mean squat but it's still painfully familiar to watch
1. Obama makes some sort of lukewarm proposal in the spirit of what he calls "bipartisanship".

2. Republicans scream and holler and threaten all kinds of dire shit if Obama follows through on his half assed proposal.

3. In what appears to be a concession to all the screeching and threats, Obama waters down his already watered down proposal.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 a few times.

6. You're not even sure you'll watch the speech, eh?
Don't care what's going on in Washington, or are you just invested in protecting the idea the the President can't do anything to your liking? Not sure what else you're trying to convey.

Otherwise, with people like you to wave the "wimp" banner, who needs opposition?

From what I understand, it will occur prior to the actual game.

If people care about what Washington is saying about jobs, they'll either watch or put their DVRs to use.

11. Do you live your life with that attitude?
And are you really trying to find something positive? Seems to me you're content calling Obama a 'wimp' and way too fast to condemn before it even happens.

You might as well not even vote.

Ugh.
