Bachmann: Irene is God's message for Washington
Source: Yahoo News

MIAMI (Reuters) - For Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, Hurricane Irene and last week's earthquake in the eastern United States were a message from God that Washington needs to change its policies.

Even as Irene was beginning its raking course up the East Coast over the weekend, which killed 21 people and caused widespread flooding and power outages, Bachmann told senior citizens in Poinciana, Florida, on Saturday that the hurricane was an "act of God" that Washington should heed.

The Minnesota congresswoman, who has gained media prominence for her fiery attacks on Democratic President Barack Obama and against big government, recalled Washington and the east had already felt a 5.8 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday.

"Washington, D.C., you'd think by now they'd get the message. An earthquake, a hurricane. Are you listening? The American people have done everything they can, and now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it," she said, drawing some laughs from her audience.

50. Yeah, I Mean
"a message from god." Could mean anything. Maybe he is telling Washington to go socialist. Maybe he is saying the the Capital city should be moved to...I don't know, Omaha. Maybe he's punishing us for killing Moslems? Who knows. Shouldn't god have learned to speak simple English after all these years? At least carve the message into stone tablets and toss them down!

Edited on Mon Aug-29-11 10:25 AM by woodsprite
If He really did, He would have punished those a$$hats and the previous administration way before now. She sounds a bit like she goes to the church of the wackos - what is it? Westboro Baptist?

That one stupid ass quote can sink her prospects of being crowned "President Bachmann".

32. Actually God does punish people.
But it's totally indiscriminate and has nothing to do with our measly human values.
Obviously some good people have hard times and some bad have good, and vice versa.

What we do here on our tiny planet affects us but in respect to the totality of an immense and possibly infinite universe we account for nothing.

It seems somewhat careless telegraphic work, of course, but who are we to question the "almighty" if Bachmann can grab a news spot?

23. DC actually came through both the quake and the hurricane
fairly well for the most part.

I drove down Sat mid-afternoon to be with Son, Wife & small grandsons. It was raining, but not heavily, and at that time the winds had not yet arrived. I stayed put once I'd gotten there though, as did we all, mostly to keep out of the way if emergency services needed the roads.

We were among those who did not even lose power. While several branches and some trees came down throughout the city, in that neighborhood - a progressive one - only a few twigs.

If there was any Divine Message, it was that God helps those who help themselves, IMO. The authorities were prepared for this and so were we. But that is lost on people like Bachmann.

51. and that message is that we are all charged with caring for the
welfare of our brothers and that is accomplished most expediently through the fair taxing of all of our citizens, from the richest on down, so that when events like this happen, the lives of all people can be restored to some semblance of normalcy as quickly as possible. This isn't a time for selfishness that is constantly being demonstrated by those of the right wing, the republicans and most certainly, the selfish, self-centered and self absorbed tea-bagger ilk, such as yourself, Michelle.

Also, you don't speak for god. You never have and you never will.

earthquakes and hurricanes have nothing to do with god.
