1. What does he expect in lieu of federal assistance?
People will come out of their houses with chain saws to cut up the trees that have blocked the roads?

Pass the hat in communities?

Bake sales?

2. He is a total hypocrite.
He is one of only four House Republicans to request earmarks for 2011 budget.

For Fiscal Year 2010, he requested 54 earmarks, including one for $51.5 million in federal money to be spent on “Reconstruction of Bluewater Highway Hurricane Evacuation Route Between Brazoria and Galveston Counties in Texas.” Then, in yet another of his 'look at me' votes, he voted against the appropriations bill.

So he's against government spending unless it means something to him. He doesn't think federal money should be spent to help folks in hurricanes, unless it's in his home district.

4. YEP
He is a saint to the hard libertarians.

I bring this up about him to them when I talk to them, and of course, it does not matter one iota.

They just say, hey, everyone else is taking them, so he has a responsibility to take them.

6. Everyone else is doing a lot of things he doesn't do.
His supporters say that makes him great. But when it comes to earmarks, he asks for them because everybody else is asking for them and that makes him great too. Except for FY2011, when he was one of only four House Republicans who asked for earmarks.

This 'defense' of Paul's hypocrisy is a perfect example of cognitive dissonance. His small but devoted band of believers cannot be swayed by logic.

7. It fits perfectly with the whole mindset ...
The total disconnect from personal responsibility that the republican messaging has normalized.

Their shiite does not stink.

8. Thank you for digging up this info
It clearly shows that Republicans rely on fear mongering.

3. These people only want government services when they are the ones receiving them
No one else deserves federal help in their eyes.

The question we must ask people is, How do they continue to support these corporatist whores.

10. Their whole ideology is based on this sort of elitism.
That they are the only hard-working, worthy people who could ever deserve help.

5. Let him talk on...
the man is the quintessential idiot. If his district was hit by a disaster, he'd be there w/a bucket looking for cash...just like Perry after talking up secession, he begged for cash to fight wildfires and drought.

11. Loved Bernie Sanders' response when asked about this.
Sanders emphasized that we are a NATION; not 50 individual states. We come together as a nation when tragedy hits any one of the states.

Heard this on CNN yesterday and loved the way that Mr. Sanders expressed his thoughts.
