Perry: "I dislike Washington; I think it's a seedy place."
Edited on Fri Aug-26-11 07:51 AM by jefferson_dem

"Look, I am not an establishment figure, never have been, and frankly, I don't want to be. I dislike Washington; I think it's a seedy place."

-- Texas Gov. Rick Perry, quoted by Reuters.

It never ceases to amaze me, they hate the government, but they try their hardest to be part of it.

Not to mention the fact that he hates America enough to want to secede, but now he wants to lead it?

What a dick.

governor to move to DC wasn't a big fan either. Stayed away from his public housing more than any other president. And we all know how that turned out!

That picture - good lord! Yet another yee-haw asshat. Are all Texas governors required to be delusional asshats in love w/ the 'wild west' myth?

Here's one classy lady who might have been presidential material but she left us too soon.

Ann Richards 1933-2003

Ann could even do the Ka-Boy hat thing with style

We love us some Ann here in Texas. Molly and Ann are sorely missed.

16. Thanks for the lovely reminders of two great TX women.
My maternal grandmother was born in Dallas and she was another such. So I heart TX even though I absolutely detest people like Perry and cannot comprehend why anyone with a functioning brain would even consider voting for him.

28. Yes, Ann & Molly are Texas jewels.
Ann Richards is one of my heros. Her daughter is doing great fending off the rethug assaults on Planned Parenthood too.

I'll have to remember that 'pay attention' quote from Molly. Been thinking of her recently and how much she would have contributed to the current rethug jokes running for the nomination.

On the other hand, Perry and Bush are huge phonies.

15. Perry hatred seems to be getting out of hand
Even a broken clock is right twice a day, and if it's midnight, it doesn't stop being midnight just because a broken clock agrees that it's midnight.

Do you folks mean to say that you like and approve of the quality of culture in Washington, DC? That you view these people - all of them, not just your favorites - as appropriate role models for your children and acquaintances?

That's one of the few things I've ever heard him say that I thought most progressives would agree with, and hence ignore.

Unless you do, and you've had Perry as governor and know all the horrible things he's done here, then don't say Perry hatred seems to be getting out of hand.

Believe me as a resident of the state of Texas. The hatred is justified.

22. I don;t really understand whatyou mean
Washington as a "seedy place" may mean many things, not all of them necessarily related to politics. Also to say that you do not want to be part of the establishment when you are running for president is stupid.

24. There are good and bad things about Washington DC
but, basically, if you are a member of government, you have to be able to admit that government can function well, that it has a legitimate role in society. Most people involved in government genuinely want to do good.

I think the hatred and distrust of government is a creeping sickness that paralyses individuals into negativity, and causes little but self-destructive behavior in a party populated by such individuals.

A good antidote is to read some history, study the roles of government through history, and get to know some individuals who currently work in government; what we have today is an evolutionary improvement on what we had in the past, government effectively and efficiently performs most of its societal roles well, and there are so many good people involved, it is hard to see any justification for blanket criticisms.

Walked the mall... visited the White House ... sat in the House or Senate gallery? If so, were you thinking..."damn, this place is ""seedy""?

This isn't about Perry hatred and you know it. Feel free to cozy up to this cretin's anti-Washington blustery secessionist rhetoric if you like. But don't expect many here to agree with you.

27. Washington is what Washington is in GREAT part ...
because of the arseholes who campaign on how horrible it is ...

They get elected, then they think they have carte blanche to do whatever the heck they want when they get there ...

This is typical republican BS - and these are the MOST OFTEN the ones who end up in trouble, breaking laws in ethics jams, who then of course, blame the liberal media or partisan politics ...

This is playing to the cynicism of people and is WEAK, it is like a 22 year old guy dating HS girls, or throwing a stick of dynamite into a lake and using a net to scoop up the dead/stunned fish ...

Give me someone who says they respect the institutions of government, and who really want to get to Washington DC and do the business of the people EVERY time over these jackwagons who demogogue it ...

that Christ himself would run out if he was here. I'm speaking of Perry's and Gramm's plan to benefit from the deaths of retired state employees via insurance policies paid for by the state.

Perry and Gramm are moneychangers. They want business to be about creating financial instruments, not creating goods, services, or intellectual property, etc, things of real value.
