Pelosi’s Appointees To Super Commitee Won’t Cut Entitlement Benefits |

“That is a priority for us,” Pelosi said. “But let me say it is more than a priority – it is a value… it’s an ethic for the American people. It is one that all of the members of our caucus share. So that I know that whoever’s at that table will be someone who will fight to protect those benefits,” Pelosi said during today’s press conference. She was responding to a question about whether the three members she appoints to the super committee established by the debt ceiling deal compromise will vote down any proposal that targets entitlement benefits.

1. It's great that she says "it is more than a priority – it is a value" to not cut entitlements.
But the word "won't" does not appear in link with her quote. It appears in only in your subject line. So it's not accurate.

Don't you think it's a good idea for DU members to advocate in favor of leaving entitlement cuts "off the table"?

5. Entitlement cuts have and will be on the table.
Just as tax cuts to the wealthy are on the table. Nothing would get done if everything wasn't on the table.

2. Good. And the Senate GOP won't allow any "No" voters to the table.
If they have any sanity and semblance of brains left, they won't let any House 'Baggers hijack the process...not with this Super Committee under the microscope.

It's almost as if there's more ACCOUNTABILITY with this setup.

Hmm.

3. When you say "If they have any sanity and semblance of brains left"
you are making a mighty big assumption.

Here is my prediction. The committee with deadlock 6-6 over raising taxes and it will deadlock 6-6 over cutting entitlements.

6. She said that about the Public Option too,
but when push comes to shove,
she lines up where the Party Leadership tells her to line up.

Now THIS is "Bi-Partisanship"!
Better get used to it.

8. The Senate killed the public option, not Pelosi, not Obama.
The Senate. Separation of powers and whatnot.

15. Who voted FOR it ,
and Obama signed it,
and they all congratulated each other,
and sang Kumbayah with the Republicans after the "fight" was over.

14. Her house passed a few different versions of the public option.
I love how people forget how all this shit went down and just make shit up after the fact.

10. You sound like a cheap lawn chair who folded way long ago,
after the first time of not getting exactly what you wanted.

11. Sheesh ...
I am a sturdy chair that has stood strong for over 50 years, knowing exactly how and when we have gotten rolled, time and time again ....

I appreciate your general tone here in these parts, Frenchie, but such cheap insults really just bounce off my ass ...

You are better than this ..... But if you feel a need to become chief apologist for roll over dems who have lost their way, then have at it .... I wont stop you ...

But I will speak my mind, whether you like it or not .... It's not about what I wanted ... Its about what is RIGHT .... I have a great job that is secure ... I have bought and sold a few homes and have little debt to speak of ... I am not hurting, so why would I care about what I want ? .. I care more about others who are hurting ... So you are quite wrong ....

It's about families and regular citizens getting a fair shake from an honest man (or woman) ....

As far as I am concerned; The Democrats have done little to protect families and regular citizens ..... Say what you want, and insult as many as you like, but that wont change the facts ...

The Democrats have been a leaky dyke for 30 years now .. Unable to find a voice and barely able to speak a word in support of the New Deal policies that get whittled down, day in and day out ...

THAT is a fact without any consideration as to what I want ....

17. You are right....that was a cheap shot I took, and I didn't need to go there.....
however, your cheap shot wasn't so much better, as it was simply a one liner cliche
meant to put down cause you can. Sure, you may feel what you described,
but I'm just so tired of reading folks who believe that lining up in a thread
to proclaim cheap shot negativity against our side is somehow productive
to the political climate in getting things done, when it just isn't.
Does speaking the truth to power include lawn chair metaphors and cliches without substance?
Is that becoming activism on the Internet as we know it?
If so, perhaps that is why why we are were we are today.

So I apologize for making the statement that I did to you, when I don't know you from Adam.
I didn't learn anything from the comment you made,
so I would have been better off just ignoring it altogether.
