"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
Edmund Burke, an Irish political philosopher, Whig politician and statesman who is often regarded as the father of modern conservatism.
The way a democracy is supposed to work is in a legislature, the political majority reigns and the minority compromises and/or is just allowed to voice an opinion.
The debt ceiling has revealed that John Boehner and Mitch McConnell are paper tigers and not leaders of their own party. They haven't read the Riot Act to the Tea Party, a minority sect within the republican party. Matter of fact, they're letting the minority dictate the policy of the majority, leading to drastic legislation that will effect ALL Americans.
Think about this: a MINORITY of representatives making policy affecting you and me. Maybe if you tallied the votes that got them elected, you're talking about less than a million people dictating to us.
A leader of the majority tells the minority that the votes aren't there for their goals and to wait until they're the majority. And they have to go along with the majority.
But the republicans aren't about to sacrifice their status and their power by allowing the democrats (via Obama) have their day when the republicans back down and vote to raise the debt ceiling.
I see this situation as a problem in the republican House more than the democratic House.
