Fox Nation On Obama: Why Don’t They Just Call Him Boy?
Posted by Mark on July 16, 2011 at 10:22 am.

For anyone who isn’t yet convinced that Fox News is not only brazenly partisan, but repulsively racist as well…

Make no mistake, this is a coordinated message that the right plants via not-so-subtle innuendo. From House Speaker John Beohner saying that Obama “spends a lot of time whining,” to Rush Limbaugh repeatedly referring to the President as a “man-child” (or boy), the intention to characterize Obama as less than an adult is obvious. It is a barely veiled return to the overt racism of diminishing the respect due to any other man (i.e. any other white man).

This is almost as bad as last month’s headline when the Fox Nationalists said that: Obama Has A Big Problem With White Women.

Extremely poor excuse for journalism. It's pure propaganda.

55. Fox has brought down the standard of American Journalism to the bottom of
the barrel. Fox might very well get into legal trouble itself, soon.
That Rubert Murdoch is getting it in England now. Watch the investigation
proceedings beginning at 9:15 a.m. - noon, tomorrow (Tuesday) at Keith Olbermann's

2. Most of the Republican commentary about Obama has one of three subtexts.
Edited on Sun Jul-17-11 02:50 PM by TheWraith
1. "Boy."
2. "Uppity."
3. "Not like us."

As the saying goes, not all Republicans are racists, but most racists are Republicans.

that he is the only grown up in the room....which has already been proven,
no matter how much they try to give the opposite impression.

It is Cantor who attended a Brittany Spears Concert, not Pres. Obama!

4. They are lucky Obama is the adult in the room and not falling for their taunts.
The actions of the RW media and the Repug "leaders"/politicians have put me in a position I never thought I'd see. I have many dear friends that I know are from the old, standard Republican party of yesteryear and we rarely discuss politics.

I now find myself thinking that they are buying into this crappola and I'm losing respect for them. I would like to think they are smarter than to be "converted" to this present-day party, but I'm staying clear of them as a matter of course. I know it's narrow-minded of me, but the more I see, the more discouraged I get. NO, I have never been a Republican, although I registered as one when I first voted, many, many years ago. (My parents were Repugs.)

I truly believe that the damage they have done to politics will never be undone. How sad!

6. Yup, That's SO Racist
How dare they call him CHILD! Everyone knows child is a codeword for black. Calling a black person "childish" almost as bad as a lynching!

Seriously guys, the racism crap is getting old. White guilt won't play the same role it did in 2008, and if we keep pushing racism on everyone (I honestly believe race relations and racism have become WORSE since 2008) then I think it may well have a reverse effect.

Yes, "this racism crap is getting old" and people that get called on their racism usually squawk the loudest.

8. OMG Now I'm Racist Too?
So by telling you to stop calling everyone racist...now I'm racist? This is almost comical, really. I'm going to post a tidbit I wrote in another thread on this site that was calling out racism:

"We live in a world where certain groups will always hate other groups. We have problems with racism, sexism, etc. Think of how many liberals hate certain people or feel differently about them when they found out that they're Christian. Think of how Republicans hate Democrats and Democrats hate Republicans.

I think we liberals need to spend our time doing more worthwhile things than calling everyone in the world a racist and trying to pass racism off as the worst possible flaw someone can have. As long as they aren't actually HURTING or ABUSING someone, I think everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

For example, is it racist that I live in a gated community in an all-white prep town? You could argue yes - because I do so to avoid crime, and thus it's ALMOST like I'm saying there is more crime in the black community. But am I really hurting someone by living there? Am I actively speaking out against any minority? Nope. Everyone's a tad racist to an extent. Black people are racist when they vote for Obama simply because he's black, and white people are racist when they vote for Obama's opponent because he's NOT black. Even progressive democrats live ourselves are a tad racist, which can manifest itself in the simple act of avoiding a high minority area for fear of crime."

13. If you notice..
I never said "Liberals hate Christians" I said think of how many liberals hate Christians. It's a fact that many do, but of course not all of them, just like all Christians don't hate gays, etc etc. So no, it's not a broad brush, as I did not make a universal statement, just one example.

You're right, I am "squawking" (as you so eloquently put it) about racism, because I'm sick of hearing about it. I'm really tired of the fake offense white liberals take to hearing anything that can be remotely stretched to be racist, simply so they can assuage their white guilt. I used to be just like that, but I think it's gotten so out of hand...like that Nair commercial with the three women, where the black woman was on one side and the white on the other, and people actually tried to cry racism over that? Really? It's comical at this point.

I guess my feelings are this: Both parties spend too much time faking indignation about everything. Republicans need to stay out of the bedroom and stop trying to act like anything homosexual is some great offense. Democrats need to stop calling everyone that disagrees with a black person a racist. Let's focus on the real issues and stop finding so many POINTLESS tangents to go off on! It's not the place of a politician to judge citizens as racist, or sinners, or anything else. Their job is to make laws that help our government function efficiently, nothing else.

And unlike some of Obama's most ardent supporters on DU, I certainly don't think the issues that liberal and progressives have with him are rooted in racism.

Liberals don't 'call everyone in the world a racist'. That's nonsense.

However quite a few of the talking heads at Faux News and their gullible audience use racist codewords.

Rush Limbaugh is a racist. Have you ever listened to his program? Are you going to tell me 'man-child' isn't a euphemism for 'boy'?

17. Race relations have gotten worse since 2008 because Faux
and other racist like Limbaugh, Coulter, Beck have been enouraging the racism. That's right....that's a fact. They first went after President Obama's church preacher remember that? Oh, the preacher is so anti-American.....

Yet, Rick Perry is attending a HUGE religious event with several preachers who are beyond radical, racist, hate women, hate gays etc. Yet the MSM says nothing....only Rachal Maddow has pointed this out....

Are you saying that President Obama by his being black is spurning racism? That's what it sounds like...

The Right cannot have a successful Black president because it goes against their story line.

You are right the racism is getting old so tell the assholes Limbaugh, Coulter, Beck to stop doing it....

18. Ahhh, the "white guilt" card is played ....
If you don't realize what THAT phrase is racist, there is no help for you.

I'll explain ... by using it, you are claiming that lots of white people only voted for the black guy because they felt guilty about something. In other words, whites would be unlikely to vote for the black guy because they actually preferred his positions over those of the now totally insane GOP candidate. Nope, they voted for him because he's black.

Guess what ... that's not only a racist comment, it's projection. That meme was created by the right wing because it explains perfectly why many on the right would never vote for him.

And racism didn't get worse since 2008, its simply come above ground. The racists spent much of the last 30 years only using the word n****r in private, under ground. And they've always been ticked that they can't can't use that word to put down blacks directly. It was a weapon that has been taken away. And they had to hide their anger.

With the election of a black President, that 30 years of anger has popped back through the surface. And that's why Fox and Limbaugh, and others continue to blow various dog-whistles, often not so subtly, to make sure that the racists in their base have some red meat.

And when they get called on it, they look around as if they have no idea what happened. But this is why Fox news will run endless stories about the "new black panthers", or Glen Beck can say that Obama is a racist and that he hates the "white culture". BillO can say that middle America is concerned about the "white Christian power structure" being undermined by Obama, and Rush can claim that Barrack, Michelle, Colin Powell, Sonia Sotomayer, Holder, etc are the "real racists".

20. Let's look at the definition of
douchebag.

douchebag:

1. douchebag Someone who has surpassed the levels of jerk and asshole, however not yet reached fucker or motherfucker. Not to be confuzed with douche.
Rob:He kept hitting on my girlfriend at the party, he just wouldnt leave her alone!!
Sam: God, what a douchebag.

2. douchebag An individual who has an over-inflated sense of self worth, compounded by a low level of intellegence, behaving ridiculously in front of colleagues with no sense of how moronic he appears.

Your boss is a real douchebag!

Edited on Mon Jul-18-11 10:21 AM by Guy Whitey Corngood
one so called "white guilt" had dick to do with Obama's victory on 2008. That's just RW nonsense right there. You gave yourself away from the start. The fact that many people who voted for Obama (who normally wouldn't have) did. Has more to do with the fact that in a time of crisis McCain came through as a crazy jackass and that idiotic parrot on his shoulder turned away even more people. By contrast Obama came across as level headed and presidential. Obama's campaign was masterful and McCain's sucked plain and simple. Not to mention how succesfully the Obama was able to tie Jr. around McCain's neck.

The fact that urban areas with high concentrations of blacks have higher crime rates is because they are poorer neglected areas. Go the the west side in Columbus Ohio where all those trailer parks and poor whites live and tell me that they don't have higher crime rates than affluent areas.

I have no way of knowing if the guy that replied to you is black or not. That has nothing to do with the stupid shit you're pushing here. Nor do I give a shit if he is. This is the internet. For all i know "he" is really a 50 year old Korean fucking around on the web just for the LULZ.

37. Highly educated people make all kinds of dumb as statements. That is true. As you
have demonstrated. I also noticed how you're stuck on this and haven't even bothered to address the topic of this thread. Faux News' bubble headed morons has a pattern of making bigoted statements. Sometimes coded some times not so much:
"Obama's baby mama" reg. Michelle Obama
"Downing 40s" reg. the President.
"Thugs in the hizzy" reg. the president
"Wetbacks crossing the border" reg.... well you figure that out

And like you they have this fixation on what "black people" do instead on focusing on the causes. Now try to stay on topic. You started posting some bullshit about white guilt which was pretty much smashed to pieces. So if i were you i wouldn't go around bragging so much about being educated. You still have a lot to learn.

40. Racism in law enforcement?
Ever heard of DWB? Cops routinely pull over black people for no reason - other than being black. Ever heard of cops harassing black people on the street because they just felt 'they must be up to something'?

Ever work in retail? I've worked a few places where we were told to, for instance, "watch the rap section more closely", because, you know...meanwhile, since they're NOT BEING WATCHED as closely, white kids walk out with Insane Clown Posse or some shit by the car load.

Then there's the bullshit legal system. Rich white people get away with much more than a poor black youth with no means for a great lawyer. Black people who do crack are more likely to serve way more time than a white kid caught with powder cocaine.

And on, and on, and on.

generalizations like the others you have used throughout this thread. You make a simplistic comment then sprinkle some statistics on it and somehow think that you're brilliant. I'm sorry that you can't stay on topic and keep yelling facts every time somebody calls you out on it. I'm sure that's painful.

There's avery good reason to have used one word to describe that atrocity of a reply: "everyone says the police are racist". It's bullshit. See how easy it is. You made an idiotic statement based on nothing. I was addressing that directly. It doesn't deserve a serious reply. That's on par with the "some people say" used in Faux news which by the way is the original topic.

9. Serious projection given the actual childish behavior of the R's
And it carries with it the intent of diminishing the President's stature at every opportunity. And I do believe it has its underpinnings in racism. The more the President wears on Republican nerves, the more the code words and phrases are deployed.

As I've said, we've heard plenty about racist jokes, e-mails, web pages and comments about the President from local Republican officials across the country. To think that that attitude doesn't exist in Congress is naive.
