Obama to women's soccer team: Sorry I can't be there

President Obama issued an apology to the U.S. women's soccer team, then wished them good luck in today's World Cup title match with Japan.

Obama tweeted this morning: "To the women of our national soccer team: Sorry I can't be there to see you play, but I'll be cheering you on from here. Let's go. -BO"

Members of the soccer team had invited Obama to today's game in Frankfurt, Germany, but the president is stuck in Washington on the debt ceiling talks.

The president did assign an official delegation to the title match, led by Vice President Biden's wife Jill and including former first daughter Chelsea Clinton.

7. In Women's World Cup, hard to root against Japan

Japan's northeastern seaboard remains devastated by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, a natural catastrophe believed to have killed more than 15,000 people. The women's team has been respectable for years - team captain Homare Sawa is playing in her fifth World Cup - but hadn't previously been bent on dominance at the highest level. Over the past month, these women have found a higher calling, a chance to bring joy to their homeland, and for the first time in their lives, they believe they actually can win it all.

"They're playing for something bigger and better than the game," U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo

6. why would we do that? BO is doing the right thing
can you imagine the non-stop false outrage the other side would spew if he went? As it is, I am sure the top story out of all the hate spewer's microphones will be that vast, enormous amount of time BO spent tweeting the team, and why wasn't he working on the debt crisis.

15. On top of that, I think the POTUS actually needs to be in the country now, not just the symbolism
There could be developments in the negotiations and it may be crucial that he meet face to face with somebody ASAP.

10. Yes!
POTUS commenting on Team USA playing in the world cup final is exactly the same as if he had commented on the Casey Anthony trial. Nailed it!

Anyway, what's he thinking! It's only a little game! He should spend time working the soup line instead...or doing my laundry!

11. Uh huh.
Your inane insult de jour of the president isn't just low-hanging fruit, it's lying on the ground in the dirt.

Simply put ... one of the most inane comments I've read on DU in a long while. Dismiss for what it is.
