61% Of Voters Blame Republicans Not Obama For The Recession

Buried in the latest McClatchy/Marist poll was an interesting nugget. Although Americans are upset about the economy, 61% of those polled still think that Obama inherited the recession.

According to the poll Obama only has a 37% approval rating on his handling of the economy. He scores even worse on the issue of the deficit with a 61% disapproval rating, but his favorable rating remains at 50%, and when asked if the economy is his fault, or he inherited it, 61% of those polled expressed the belief that the president inherited the economy.

2. Where's the poll asking who's at fault for it not being fixed yet?
This poll is fine, but I don't think it will factor into next years election one bit.

4. And in another one last week 44% said they're worse off now than under Bush.
Sure. They know he inherited the mess. They also don't feel it's getting better. And that's what will continue to matter.

Those findings pile on top of a spate of recent surveys that have a painted a gloomy picture of Americans' attitudes about the nation's economic health, and shown widespread pessimism about President Obama's ability to do anything about it. According to the latest TPM Poll Average, just 40% of Americans approve of Obama's job performance when it comes to the economy, compared to 55.8% who disapprove -- and things have been getting markedly worse in the past few months.
