Bachmann: I’m scholarly
:spray:

(CNN) - Newly declared Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann defended her past gaffes Tuesday by touting her background as an attorney and small business owner.

“People can make mistakes and I wish I could be perfect every time I say something, but I can’t,” Bachmann said on CNN’s “American Morning.” “But one thing people know about me is that I’m a substantive, serious person and I have a strong background.”

The Minnesota congresswoman addressed her most recent slip up when she incorrectly said movie star John Wayne was born in Waterloo, Iowa, Bachmann's native city and the site of her presidential announcement Monday. Wayne was born in nearby Winterset.

When asked if it is harder to prove herself because of her gender, the three term representative said “people just need to know what a person’s background is.”

“I'm introducing myself now to the American people so that they can know that I have a strong academic scholarly background, more important I have a real life background,” Bachmann said.

9. People who love her will hear what they want to hear
They will brush aside the gaffes ("people make mistakes") and focus on "substantive" and "academic scholarly background".

Unless one of her "mistakes" advocates something liberal, Bachmann followers will support her to the end, and the more the media points out her idiocies, the more vehemently they will defend her.

12. I really like what I've seen of Bachman so far
She's a tax lawyer and she's stated that she doesn't dislike Obama as a person, but just disagrees with his policies, which is a good tack to take against Obama who people personally like even if they disagree with him. I want to hear some of her stances on the issues. If she moderates them, I think she's a formidable opponent. She seems to have excellent advisers and campaign people and is also looking very presidential lately.

15. do you have a postgraduate degree like Bachman?
Have you practiced in a highly intellectual field like tax law as Bachman has?

I doubt you're in any position to be casting aspersions on her (or anyone else's) intelligence.

40. BAchman's Law School? Right..
The school she attending is one of those '!!++CHRISTIAN++!!'
institutions bankrolled by Liberty University.
Places like that have an agenda, and don't ascribe to the
scholarship of real academia.

The same kind of education that David Barton plays:
the school of revisionist history/theocracy/male domination.

Altho she got her credentials there,
she played the game working for the IRS,
sucking the system.

She's got no credibility by any of use who've
gotten our education the hard way.

Besides, she runs with the crowd that screams: "Elitism!"
when confronted with any reasonable intellectual argument.

Her curriculum vitae means beans.

22. Seems like you're really impressed by people with postgraduate degrees. Let's see...
John Yoo graduated from Yale Law School. Alberto Gonzalez has a law degree. Sen. Tom Coburn is a physician (M.D.) That's just for starters.

If any of these people told me the sun was shining, I'd have to look out the window to check.

Jeezus! No wonder the Amerikan people are swayed by the BS that's spewed by our so-called leaders. :eyes:

24. I just think it's tough to call someone dumb
when they have a post-graduate education in an intellectually challenging field. Doesn't mean you have to agree with their policies. But that doesn't make them dumb either. Bachman is no Palin. She's very smart and I think many on here are underestimating her.

37. Underestimating Bachmann
A lot of people thought Bachmann would self-destruct in the Republican debate, but she performed very well. It's going to be more difficult to trap her with her own statements than people realize. She seems to be pretty good at scrambling - an absolutely essential quality in a presidential candidate. She also has genuine grass roots support.

20. she has made a lot of extreme statements
as well as a lot of false statements.

she's been a regular on RW talk radio from the moment she took office. They love her because she says all these ridiculous things.

Unfortunately she's going to start facing the real media, aka the "gotcha" media and they're very different than RW talk radio hosts. Well, maybe I should say somewhat different.

If you want to see her stances on the issues then her website is a pretty good place to start.

In summary: these are her issues:

Tax cuts for big business, repeal health insurance reforms, more drastic spending cuts, the "Oh look it's Iran!!!" statement, and "drill baby drill".

Want more details? Try here. http://www.ontheissues.org/house/michele_bachmann.htm

Edit for spelling.

Interesting from a person on a liberal website. She is absolutely right wing extreme. I can imagine that people who are interested in extremist ideas may like her but I find it interesting that a person who frequents this website would say they really like what they see in her.

Which policies do you like of hers when you see them?

Edited on Tue Jun-28-11 10:48 AM by Lost-in-FL
One of my coworkers just graduated from law school and she is a total idiot. Like Bachmann, she is a teahadist. She constantly complaints about her two kids being unable to find a job because of the "mexicans". She is a vile person and when I hear about tea baggers, she is the kind of individual I think about.

That "John Wayne" thing, e.g., is just sheer stupidity! If she doesn't have somebody checking her facts, she needs one. If she DOES have one, she needs to fire him.

And the failure to do either? STUPIDITY.

But then we knew that about Batshit Bachmann.

Puffing yourself up is a necessary skill to run for office. You have to be able to make people wonder how they ever got along without you.
