Thank you for making Christmas better today President Obama
My wife offered a great insight into what/why the oil release means.
She works in the trucking industry

A political ploy? Eh maybe but not really
For the Fourth of July and summer travel? No not at all

What starts "moving" from July to August?
Retailers starting buying for the holiday shopping. Fall clothes (back-to-school) too but primarily retail goods for the holiday shopping period.

Whether the retailers still try to pass gas costs, real or otherwise, onto consumers and to what degree we will have to see.
What it does do is lower costs for manufacturers, retailers, and it may keep Yellow trucking (teetering on the edge) a float for at least one more holiday season.

2. Thought I just heard a guy on CBS Evening News say prices could go down 50 cents/gallon in a week.
Edited on Thu Jun-23-11 05:47 PM by flpoljunkie
Thought I must have misheard, as that would be an astounding price drop. He also said the traders don't like it when we release oil, as no one wants to speculate because the president has put them on notice he might release more oil. All I can say is, 'Thank you, Mr. President!'

15. I love that they did it to screw the Speculators AND said they may very well do it again so
the Speculators know if they try to run it up again, they will nail them again. Good. They say "supply & demand" but then totally distort the market.

19. Analysts say this move could lower gas prices 50 cents or more within weeks. Traders don't like it,
but drivers will. This comes at the end of the video below.

4. Depending on how far prices have fallen by the middle of july
I might think about taking a trip Milwaukee or maybe Pittsburgh to see the Cubs play.

5. So glad I didn't fill my tank yesterday
I maybe use one tank a month and it was starting to run low. I thought I better put some in before it goes up for the Fourth. Heck, I may even drive somewhere just for fun.

6. It's a fast form of stimulus, given that the Teabagger House is blocking all economic initiatives.
Edited on Thu Jun-23-11 06:06 PM by ClarkUSA
That's the biggest move Pres. Obama can do right now to spur on the economy now. Iran has blocked OPEC's drive to increase output and Republicans are doing everything they can to make the economy fail through neglect, so our Democrtaic President made a bold move and gave the finger to The Chamber of Commerce, who is squealing like a stuck pig in dismay (my apologies to all pigs).

How insightful. I will spread the good news to my entire address book as well as to my OFA group.

I wonder if diesel prices will be similarly affected.

;)

Travel plans are in the offing.... and what a stimulus plan this will turn out to be for the nation. No wonder Republicans and their allies aka. The Chamber of Commerce are so furious.

BTW, what is "yellow" trucking?

14. Thanks.
I know gas/diesel prices have hit truckers hard. I hope they remember this move and vote their economic interests in 2102 because Republicans and The Chamber of Commerce sure aren't on their side.

12. On top of all that, a bunch of "speculators" got their clocks cleaned this morning.
They were totally taken by surprise and they lost LOTS of money. That just warms my heart!!!

17. Never thought of it that way
Thanks for bringing that insight to us, Underpants! The 'strategic' oil reserve can be used for any winning strategy, in my opinion. It doesn't just have to be for war.
