The Morning Plum: New Poll shows Obama and Dems winning battle over Medicare
The Morning Plum
By Greg Sargent

Obama and Dems winning the battle over Medicare: New Post polling out this morning demonstrates this in the clearest terms yet. The poll finds that Obama holds a double digit lead over Republicans on who is most trusted to do a better job “protecting the Medicare system,” 49-35. That’s almost as big an advantage that Bill Clinton held on the issue amid the standoff with Republicans in 1995, which Clinton decisively won.

That’s not all. The poll also finds that less than a third of Americans, 32 percent, support the GOP Medicare plan, even though the question merely says it would “change” Medicare, not end it, and specifies that the plan would not change the status of those over 55, a key GOP defense of the proposal. Forty-nine percent oppose it.

Still more: A plurality, 49 percent, believe the GOP plan will force future generations of Medicare recipients to pay more for health insurance, while barely more than a fourth, 27 percent, thinks things would stay the same. Though Dems have been widely accused of demagoguing the GOP Medicare plan, it just may be that the public has rejected it on the merits.

1. Rec. If only the M$M could get back to talking about this instead of Anthony's weiner.

4. That won't happen. Weiner's looming House Ethics Committee investigation will ensure a media circus.

When Congress resumes next week, press will be dogging Weiner's every step.

Republicans are looking forward to it.

10. I despise him more with each passing day. He has singlehandedly managed...
to get Dems off message. At least he'll never be in leadership in Congress, and highly doubtful he'll ever be mayor of NY now.

12. Correct. A brand new poll shows a majority of New Yorkers want him to resign.
Edited on Thu Jun-09-11 12:17 PM by ClarkUSA
46% want Weiner & his weiner to go away while 41% (probably every Republican is in this group) want him to stay:
http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollReport.aspx?g=a9ac4c6b-f839-41c8-adc9-%20%206b50e353f133

You can imagine what the numbers will be after a parade of Weiner's Women testifies in front of Congress, replete with visual aids and sexting recountings.

Weiner will never be NYC mayor or anything else in the public sphere in the future.

Maybe he can be an underwear model, though.

18. Poll: Weiner constituents say stay
Even as colleagues and commentators continue to call on Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) to resign, a majority of voters in his district want him to stay put, although support for his re-election was weak, according to a new poll.

A NY1-Marist poll conducted Wednesday in Weiner’s district, representing parts of Brooklyn and Queens, found 56 percent of registered voters there saying that the embattled congressman should not quit. One-third said he should step down and another 12 percent were unsure.

7. Wait a minute....

Didn't you previously say that you were outraged by the Weiner incident? You even said it was a more outrageous issue than the wars we have going on abroad.

But now you want the M$M to move away from the issue and stop talking about it? Good luck with that. People like you are exactly the reason why the media will continue to focus on Weiner an not on the issues that matter like Medicare and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

You bought into the infotainment. You can't have it both ways, my dear.

9. And I'm still outraged for precisely the reasons you mention. What? I can't be
outraged, and think this is a ridiculous story at the same time? Weiner's a dick, that's been more than established. Time to move on. Apparently, I'm not as obsessive as you about things. I can manage to hold more than one thought in my head at once, but the media seems incapable of doing that.

The fact that Weiner has sucked all the air out of the room with his lying ass pisses me off to no end. Dems were successfully beating the Repukes over the head with the Ryan budget, and this asshole was waggin' his weenie on the internet. But, am I obsessed with it like the M$M? NO!

I hate him more with each passing day. Had he been the man his defenders made him out to be, he would have come clean right away, and this story might have died on it's own. As it stands, when he chose to out & out lie to us, and have his colleagues out there defending him, and then tearfully retracting the lie, the media smelled blood in the water. I despise him even more for the fact that he has now legitimized a charlatan like Breitbart.

As another poster said, quite aptly, while he was being hailed here as one of the few on the left who "speaks truth to power", why didn't he speak truth to the American people? Is there any wonder people loathe Congress as much as they do lawyers & the M$M?

I think the difference between you & me is you're impressed with outspoken media mavens, who really have a lackluster record of achievement. I, on the other hand, will take the guys who keep their heads down, do their job, and work with everyone to actually achieve something of substance.

And FWIW, I am not anti-war, and never claimed to be. People die in war, but I don't get to decide when we go to war or where, and neither do you. So you can harp on it day after day after day, but it doesn't change that simple fact, "my dear". ;)

13. First off, you didn't warn me about shit, and if you did, I don't need "warnings"
from folks like you. And you certainly know from "outraged". Just as I don't get to decide what the media reports, you don't get to decide what I should be outraged about.

You're the one who's equating the wars with Anthony's dick, not me. So I think that says much more about you than I care to know about. Taking advice about "outrage" from one of the president's most "outraged" critics, is not something I'm willing to do. But, you have a good day, mmmmmkay? :hi:

14. Again, the M$M's goal is to satisfy people outraged by Anthony's transgressions
Edited on Thu Jun-09-11 01:06 PM by Cali_Democrat
They are trying to satisfy people like you even though it should be an issue between him and his wife.

I'm not equating the wars with Anthony's dick. In fact, the two aren't even close to equivalent. The wars are a much more vital issue than Anthony's penis.

The M$M knows people like you are more outraged by Anthony's transgressions than the wars and they are serving you. News on the wars is few and far between because people like you don't care anymore and it's sad.

Americans are still dying and hundreds of billions are still being wasted in those wars. But the M$M would rather focus on Anthony Weiner and these photos.

That is the reason they will not move on from the issue of Anthony Weiner.

16. People who are more outraged by Anthony Weiner.....
....than vital issues like the wars. You said so yourself.

The media will not move on from Anthony Weiner. In fact, their coverage will become even worse. Just watch.

17. Dems need to do even better so they destroy the hell out of the Republicans.
Don't let any Republicans left standing and that includes any right-leaning Dems.
