Republicans are trying to Hoover the economy
This should be a Dem talking point. Time to blame GOP policies for the stall. They keep pushing to
take money out of the economy and decrease taxes on the rich. They keep holding the country hostage to make this happen.
This needs to be a campaign talking point to elect Democrats, as well as reelect Obama.

And the Dems should also state clearly that if the economy crashes or the Market tanks if the debt ceiling isn't raised, it will be the Republicans fault entirely.

It is time to play offense. It is not enough for the administration to keep pointing out, defensively, how bad it was and that they stopped a depression. They need to talk about NOW and the GOP hostage-taking tactics and their insistence on Hooverite policies that are stalling the recovery.

1. Absolutely

As PrezO is thought of as Teacher in Chief by some, he's well positioned to do some explaining, HOW economies work (or don't) and how and why repugs are complicit in lack of current and future growth. As we all know, a good teacher can make a huge difference in students' understanding, and this should work for electorate too.

2. They have no reason to improve it
As long as it is in the tank, they can hammer Obama, the jobs numbers stay bleak driving tax revenues down and thereby forcing local and state governments to make further cuts and the GOP can proclaim the need to give further tax cuts to the rich to further spur the economy.

Yes they are driving the economy down for their own political interest. Not in the interest of the country.

3. I'm far more worried about restoring prosperity to the country
than I am to getting any Dems reelected. We are more important than any politician.

However, I do agree the message needs to be kept truthful and on point.

11. How many?
We elected Dems to the House, Senate (including the "necessary" 60), and the Presidency. I think the issue is Dems need to stop thinking that being a more moderate version of the GOP is why people voted for them.

13. If the Dems we already elected
stood for Democratic values we would already have enough in place to restore prosperity.

Filling every seat in the House, Senate, and WH will change nothing if they stand for corporations before the people.

4. Your post headline is
the perfect frame: "Republicans are Hoovering the economy in order to defeat Obama in 2012"

Lather, rinse, repeat. Obama is too nice to say so let's say it for him.

14. Hoover's administration
was the most 'active' ever in addressing in economic downturn. Spending was raised, taxes were raised, creative new business financing institutions were created by Congress.

FDR blasted Hoover for his reckless spending, and then promptly raised the bar.

There's a reason that the Great Depression lasted over a decade, the government 'fought it' harder than it had any economic downturn before.

It's not coincidence this recession has seen the greatest government intervention since WW2 has seen the slowest growth since WW2.

The 2008 bailouts and stimulus packages only made things worse. The piper will be paid, with interest on new loans are myopian central planners have foisted on us.

6. And, so are most of the dems
Let's put the blame exactly where it belongs. The repubs couldn't have gotten so much 'budget cutting' done, if the dems weren't complicit. Instead of standing up and saying "we need jobs", the dems are saying that "we need to cut the budget more intelligently". No one, okay, there are a few, is saying to stop the wars, or increase taxes on the rich.

Remember, the people in tent cities can't vote, they have no address.

7. Gubmint cut 1.1 million jobs over the past year
Corporations still don't want to pay anybody except CEOs and other top management any money.

Masses of people are still underemployed or unemployed, meaning they can't buy expensive stuff from the corporations.

China, et al get richer as what little money we have left flows over there.

We can't stop this until corporations realize that infinite greed is not in their long term best interest. However, they can't see past the next quarter so they'll never change their act.

9. That sucking sound you hear
is the sound of corporatists vacuuming up all the financial resources left in this country. Doesn’t the place look tidy; hardly a speck of salary to be seen.

12. Obama should end the bush tax cuts and run on a platform of medicare for all. Defending medicare
isn't enough. We should expand it to cover everybody. That'll really put the repubs on the defensive.

19. K&R
Though I'd say Obama was a bit more like Hoover. The Republicans...I have no idea what to even compare their ideas to.
I can't readily think of a world leader in recent history that was as stupidly short sighted as the Republicans.
One may not be helping a whole lot, but the other is actively and intentionally destroying.
