ending our foreign wars
ending our drug war
supporting real health care reform
supporting gay rights
supporting environmental protection..

It is just a guess, but the DLC must feel pretty silly for not supporting Ned Lamont. Most progressives and liberals must feel pretty silly about not supporting Ned Lamont..

2. I think you're wrong in part.
I'm guessing most liberals and progressive did support Lamont. He did, after all, win the primary.

Senator they wanted in LIEberman.

9. It was the liberals and progressives who organized around Lamont. I know, because I was part of it.
I went to his organizing meeting in January of 06. When I saw the primary as being in early August, my hopes sank and I thought "How in the world are we gonna do this and GOTV at a time when half the state is on vacation?" But the energy around Lamont was immense and suddenly he became hot on the Internet.
Every liberal I knew in New Haven was doing SOMETHING on his campaign, even if it was just lowly phone banking, like me. One volunteer in his office that summer was French kid in his late teens...I wondered how he got hooked up with Ned Lamont!

I think a part of Joe died when he saw the crowds moving on, away from him like he was so much garbage. He had ignored the signs, the impatience we were having with him. He wasn't around any more at the local diner where he used to meet and greet. I never saw him walking to shul with Hadassah and their baby girl in our neighborhood, which I often did on Saturday morning as I was heading off to Jazzercise class. Then, of course, he sold his house here in New Haven and within about a year, out of New Haven entirely and (they said) to residence in Stamford (as close to NY as you can get).

He rarely is seen back here...and for good reason...

45. Yup, my conservative parents voted for Joe. He won with Repubs and
some conservative Dems. Liberals abandoned Joe a long time ago when he abandoned us. And I guess New Haven was not good enough for him. (I grew up in Cheshire by the way, but couldn't get out fast enough. Too many kids driving BMWS to school.)

7. the relief of suffering and love of family get me up everyday
I come to DU to see what is going on in the big tent. I love to see what Obamabots, DLC'ers, Liberals, Progressives, and Radicals have to say about the goings on in the world.

My OP points out the value of supporting one candidate over another. Perhaps we would be better off with Ned Lamont in the Senate. Perhaps Leiberman was a better choice.

imho, as a radical leftie, I think it was a bad mistake to support Leiberman. As a firm supporter of Obama, perhaps it was the right choice. Time alone, time will tell..

23. Due respect, Senator Lieberman is a complete piece of shit
Edited on Thu Dec-17-09 05:32 PM by Hippo_Tron
No matter where you stand on passing the legislation we have now or supporting the President (and believe me I'm more supportive of it and him than a lot of people here), it is pretty much indisputable that this process would've gone better if Ned Lamont were in the Senate instead of Joe Lieberman. The OP is absolutely correct and frankly I don't see anything divisive about it. Obstructing the largest piece of the party's domestic agenda just to be a prima donna and get a health insurance lobbying job in a few years is fucking unacceptable.

watching all those senators and the former prez going to CT to campaign against the explicit choice made by the Dems of CT as to who they wanted to be their Senator.

They are paying for that traitorous act - and I'd enjoy the schaedenfruede but for the cold hard fact that we are hurting a lot more than those bozos are because of what they did.

38. If he had been voted in, the problem would not be there, would it?
Presumably he would have supported the public option. There would have been 59 Democrats and Sanders.

Nelson would have held out for more. They realize they have this power. Remember before Franken came in it was Snowe and Collins.

Maybe they are doing it for their constituents though, or could easily claim that. If you get to be the one in the middle, you are in power in the Senate and it's a windfall for your state.

Some conservative and moderate Dems supported Joe Loserman but he got elected with more Rethugs then Dems. Please get the facts correct. Progressives in CT never supported Lieberman in 2006 or after, including me.
