3. The Republicans Suck All Right, But They Control At Least 27 State Governments Totally
and they are systematically taking over Democratic strongholds and installing their people to run them.
That means they will gerrymander, suppress voters, supply too few and non-working voting machines,
and otherwise steal millions of Democratic votes.

They also have access to unlimited corporate and foreign money.

Any of these assholes might "win". :scared:

4. I think Newt might get it. I know he has started off like a dud, but
give him time. He will pander to the wacko base. They will think he's brilliant. He will play a whole deck of race cards. He's loud and shameless and that works for Republicans.

16. I shudder to think!
He's not even in the list on this poll. Him winning the primary would insure a Dem win though and people would come out in droves to vote against him. One of the most despicable people on earth~

Mitt Romney will be the nominee. The only question at this time is will his running mate be Pawlenty or Bachman?

9. Think Marco Rubio
He's from Florida. He's a Tea Party favorite, and most importantly, he may help with the Latino vote. He won't deliver the Latino vote, but he may cut into it.

It's Romney/Rubio in 2012.

12. I don't think he'll make much of a dent in the Latino vote.
He'll attract the Cuban-Americans, most likely, but they've pretty much killed any chance of getting all but a slim portion of the Mexican-American vote, or those of Central and South American ancestry. The GOP is responsible for blocking any immigration reform, including the Dream Act, and they've been fully backing the kind of shit that was passed in Arizona and elsewhere. A Latino voting republican is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.

Though it would be terrific for comedy. I don't like Romney because he seems to stick his finger in the wind to decide what his positions are but I don't think he's that much of a hack to pick Bachmann.

10. Most those listed aren't even going to run...
Mitch Daniels, Donald Trump, John Thune, Chris Christie and Sarah Palin aren't running. Hell, Thune and Christie have unequivocally said they're not running.

I even suspect Huckabee won't run.

So off that list, I'd go with Romney.

I think he should. He's probably one of the ones who has a better chance against Obama. But he'll never make it past the primaries because of his healthcare reform bill. The Republicans are all REALLY upset over that healthcare reform bill, still.

13. On a local level...
Often, candidates run uncontested. They are so popular that everyone knows they are going to win so no one wants to waste the time or energy to run against them.

I say Obama will run uncontested and he will donate all his campaign money to charities.

47. Mark my words, Jeb will be drafted.
All of the clowns running for the GOP nominations will bloody each other to pieces. I cannot see Romney getting the nomination because the radical Randbot "Christians" won't vote for a Mormon. Pawlenty comes off as a lobotomized Pee Wee Herman, Santorum proves that his digestive system runs in reverse every time he opens his mouth, and as for the Newtster...well, just wait till the National Enquirer catches Newt in the act of seducing Mistress #4, #5, #6, #7. Bachman will be the real comic relief, but given the incredible stupidity of the Republic Party base, they may make her a serious contender. As for Mooselini, she's too busy driving her corporate sponsored RV around the country, escorted by Pat Boone's biker gang--the Heck's Angels...

But the real fun is going to be in the Republican Senate primaries when the nuts kick out Snowe, Hatch and Lugar. You think Christine O Donnell was a joke, hell, she's a preview of Things To Come!!!!

I have never seen such a crop of assholes running for President in my life.

26. I didn't vote, but I think it's between three or four
Pawlenty, Romney and Gingrich are the front runners. Romney has already screwed himself with the healthcare debate and the fact he is Mormon. Gingrich has a big mouth. Of the three Pawlenty has the least baggage. It also depends if Daniels, Huntsman or Santorum get in.

27. I voted "other", but I can't name anyone just yet...
the current bucket of goomers are losers right out of the gate. The actual nominee will most likely be someone that is off the national stage right now.

The field is shallow because no real pol wants to be the sacrificial lamb in 2012. For all of the talk about PO being "primaried", (not going to happen), and some people being exceptionally unhappy, (for various reasons, but mostly because they expected more almost instantaneously), most in the GOP realize this is a lost cause trying to unseat PO.

The memory of the bush nightmare is still fresh in the minds of people. I'm actually surprised that the R's took the House, (and I believe they are in for disaster in 21012 in all areas, simply because they forgot about jobs and went straight to social reform), the though of them taking the WH is almost surreal.

I'm in Nebraska, a seriously Red state, and the people around here might dislike PO, but they begrudgingly say that things are better under him, and they are really disgusted w/the GOP House. Boehner is worthless, and the Rep for the 3rd District, Adrian Smith is being seen as a complete loser, as is Fortenberry from the 1st and Terry from the 2nd. My 2 Senators leave a lot to be desired as well, Ben Nelson isn't far from being an R, and Johanns is a fool. nelson is up this year, and his holding the seat is precarious at best...D's are pretty ticked at him.

The nominee for GOP president will come up in a couple to 3 months, he will be a relative unknown middle of the roader...but, regardless, he will inevitably lose, the GOP has nothing to offer except insane tax cuts and fear, people see through this and will reject these clowns out of hand. They blew whatever chance they had in 2010.

31. Now that Chuckleburry is out...
Half-man, half raccoon Tiny Tim Pawlenty will get the nod.

He's both relatively inoffensive to the religious right and moderate enough for the slightly less wacky Republicans. He'll win by being crazier than Huntsman, less floppy than Romney and more viable than The Palingrich. The path is clear for him now to step forth and collect his 100-odd electoral votes in November of next year.

The GOP field is so weak right now, I don't think they will be able to field a viable candidate.

34. I think it might very well be Newt
Edited on Sun May-15-11 02:14 AM by Douglas Carpenter
He is crazy enough for all the true believers. He has all the connections even among right-wing fundamentalist in spite of being a convert to Catholicism. He hits all the right notes. He knows how to organize a campaign. He is in many ways today's modern Republican Party incarnated in human flesh - unmasked and unabashed. Current right-wing wisdom declares that they already tried running a moderate in 2008 and they actually believe that is one of the reasons they lost.

True he has some personal baggage with all his divorces and other personal matters. But I'm not convinced that is so important to them. America has had only one divorced President in all of its history - and that was a Hollywood B grade movie star, Ronald Reagan who beat a real live born-again Christian, Sunday School teacher - Southern Baptist.

Newt serves up pure raw meat. So does Palin, Bachmann and Santorum. But people just don't take them seriously. I just don't think that even Republican Party true believers can actually picture them actually being Commander and Chief. As despicable a character as he is - he does have the ability to whip real enthusiasm among their foot solders - someone who was once only third in line to the Presidency - the architect of their 1994 takeover - a real leader in their cause.

Once the primaries get rolling. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Newt Gingrich pulling into the lead. He is everything they believe in and stand for. Mitt Romney is just too boring, too much of a cold fish. Even worse, he is a Mormon. Fundamentalist really do consider Mormonism to be a cult and Mormons not to be Christian at all - much, much worse than being a Catholic convert. That is really important to them.
