...just because Obama invited them to the White House?

I don't remember Hannity and his ilk dissing Common when he acted in Terminator Salvation or Smoking Aces (his Hollywood chops: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0996669/ ). Common was known as a "conscious" rapper, because his raps were not about glorifying money/bling/chicks. In fact, he wasn't as much of a commercial success in the rap game because of just that. I'd never even heard of his "controversial" track about the Black Panther lady until this incident and I listen to mostly hip-hip/R&B. Until now, the *only* people who seemed to have a real beef over the song were the New Jersey cops.

Hannity and his ilk probably weren't listening to Jill Scott when she dropped one of the best albums of all time in "Who is Jill Scott", either. She's one of the most gifted singers I've ever had the privilege of seeing perform live. Oh, and she's an actress also: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0779325/

Common and Jill Scott are two of the most successful and likable performers there are. Trying to make them into some sort of persona non grata just shows the depths to which the President's enemies will stoop.

7. Bingo!
After Obama's approvals jumped to 60%, they gotta remind folks that he's "different".

8. ESPECIALLY the President, methinks
I doubt they'd make hay of it if GWB for some reason invited either one of them.

I didn't realize it took place today until a few hours ago. I guess the race-baiters will have to get right back to work on the next "scary black man" association. :eyes:

5. Doesn't matter
They'll pick a few grains of flyshit out of a trainload of pepper and make a federal case out of it.

It's what they do.

Easy E and the GOP, Or, Guess Who's Coming To Dinner

Remember the post-Cold War story about how Easy E attended a Republican White House dinner under George Herbert Walker Bush? We vaguely recall that after some donation the gangsta rapper got an invite. And then the story evaporated. Jerry Heller, popularizer of West Coast hip-hop, fleshes out the details in his latest book, "Ruthless":

"Because (Easy E) contributed his time and money to a South Central charity event, his name got cherry picked by the eternally vigilant fundraising apparatus of the Republican Party. A computer has no judgement. It doesn't care if you are a respected dope dealer, a violent agitator for minority rights, or one of the vocalists on a song called "Fuck Ta Police." Or all three.

"The Republicans understand money and the computer understands the slow grind of numbers. A huge Cray mainframe in Silver Springs, Maryland, picked up the scent of a twenty five thousand dollar contribution made to one (Easy E) of Westlake, California. That scent excited GOP cash glands. The Cray spit out the form letter invitation to said (Easy E) and we were off to have lunch with (President Bush, 41).

"...As it turned out, we had a pretty okay time. We ate poached salmon and roast beef. (Easy E) sat next to a woman from Dallas, who I would bet had never mixed socially with a person of color before in her long and well-heeled life. I expected her to start talking about 'the problem of the Negro.' I think she was actually afraid to look at the short African-American next to her, so she didn't notice that (easy E's) eyes looked like a couple of all-black marbles.
