Wisconsin voters will not sit out todays elections to "teach anyone a lesson"
they are in for the fight.

When those farmers went down the streets in the tractors, and people of every political persuasion were there to stand up and be counted.. Damn.. a proud moment

I am thinking about you today Wisconsin.

The best of the best is not only that judge and getting a 4/3 court, but not letting the R's take back Walkers old seat.

My heart is with you

2. You bet
It is easy to sit out in the sunshine and put hold up printed signs and be driven around in KOCH paid buses.

It is hard to be there in the snow and cold, not getting paid.. Standing for a larger cause

There is no way to express how proud I am of being a Mid Westerner.. Ohio, Ind. union people who have stood up.. and did not give up.

If I had a Wisconsin State Flag, I would fly it today. :)

7. You'd almost think Wisconsin voters aren't responsible for electing the fascists in the first place.
But culpability shouldn't get in the way of you taking your little jab...

12. People with money to spend are bending the story and the agenda any way they want
That was not jab.. that is a full on blow to the jaw. No one can sit back and not participate. We lost 3 judges and a good chance of getting all that we accomplished overturned, by people sitting it out or not bothering to take up the vote.

8. Wisconsin voters were taught a "valuable lesson" when they sat out or voted Rethugs in...
...they witnessed the damage that Republicans cause.

I hope that Paul Ryan will be taught the same lesson in 2012 by WI voters. My understanding is that they are fed up, too, with him despite the media lovefest.

10. There is going to be such a push back against all the over reach...
People who sat out 2010.. and a lot of people do not bother to vote mid terms..yep, they did not see what was coming.

You know what, today is the first day of taking it back.

GO WISCONSIN!

11. That is from the heart.. not from the snark.. sitting back even in mid terms
the stakes are too great. They get a foot hold, they have the money to turn the story anyway they want.

If I wanted to go snarky after what happened in 2010 in Iowa.. I would set this board on fire

14. You should not confuse disappointment and criticism with "sitting it out"
Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 11:58 AM by Armstead
I daresay, with some exceptions, almost everyone who criticizes Obama and the Democrats here will end up voting for him and them.

Not happily, but if they were REALLY disengaged they wouldn't bother criticizing or stating what they wish he would do differently. They'd just watch Entertainment Tonite and spend computer time playing video games.

Just sayin'....

16. I will be on edge till the returns start coming in... I have been keeping
up with reports here on what the number people were when they went in to vote. I love the flex of the unions.

I can't even begin to say how much I appreciate the police and fire unions that came out. Walker gave them a bye.. even though they have historically voted repub., the overreach was so much they were not going to stand there and let that go..

HATS OFF TO WISCONSIN.

15. Where did that meme come from?
Who Sat Out the Election to "teach anyone a lesson"?

Can you post a link to anything that supports that meme?

All the data I have seen indicates that the Democratic Left sucked it up (once again) and did the heavy Lifting despite being ridiculed & shunned by the "Centrist" Democratic Party Leadership.

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans.
I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans."

The data backs up my claim.

19. Wisconsinites got handed a a pile of lies in 2010.. and they are taking it back
We fought and lost in Iowa.. and it was teaparty all the way here.

People who care showed up.. people who did not.. or believed the crap that was being shoveled did not.

I know what I know, and I know what I saw/

Wisconsin took a hard hit, they got Ryan and Walker and lost Feingold. Votes votes votes have consequences

But Russ did not sit back.. he has started a PAC to fight Citizens United..

And the Unions, the farmers, even the traditional republican voting unions who could have sat oun their laurels, but showed up are taking it back.

So if you find my approach offensive, I suggest you disengage with me.. I do not back down..I am in for the long haul.

...that the current situation in Wisconsin is due to people sitting out the election to teach someone a lesson.

21. My claim is that people in Wisconsin will not sit out this election.
I truly believe that.. they are not going to sit this one out even though it is not a presidential election that everyone can get ginned about. The stakes have been proven to be too high, they are engaged in ways I have not seen since the mid sixties when I was a teenager.

and the teaching someone a lesson.. you are taking that to heart..why is that?

26. Your claim was that ...
..some "sat out the election to teach (someone) a lesson".
That claim is an attack ON The left, and is unsupported by the facts.

It is the JOB of Leadership to motivate the troops (voters).
If the voters don't turn out, it is a Failure of leadership.

Blaming the voters may feel good because it avoids taking any responsibility,
but that tactic has never proved productive.
You can't FIX the voters,
but if Leadership has the courage to honestly assess their own failures,
then a solution becomes possible.

27. "If the voters don't turn out, it is a Failure of leadership"
Need leaders quite a bit? Do you really have such a binary notion of political motivation, that it comes from the top alone or doesn't exist? That's a real authoritarian pattern, frankly.

For me, that word "leadership" just reminds me of heads-of-state who are called "The Leader." I never seem to like them much, from their works.

I would agree, though, that blaming the voters is also entirely pointless. The question is how to motivate voters without having to wait for the right "leaders" to happen by.

32. Was the problem in the most recent round of elections
mass Democratic voters sitting the election out to "teach someone a lesson"?

I thought it was more a combination of a less enthusiastic Democratic base vs. a more energized right-wing base and misguided Independents and moderates switching from D to R from '08 to '10. If anyone has any convincing evidence that it was indeed a mass of strong Democrats sitting out the '10 elections in WI with the purpose of punishing Democrats and electing Walker and Johnson in WI, I'd be interested in seeing it. That whole meme has been pounded into the ground by a certain faction on this site, and it's rather tiresome.
