16. I will be on edge till the returns start coming in... I have been keeping

up with reports here on what the number people were when they went in to vote. I love the flex of the unions.

I can't even begin to say how much I appreciate the police and fire unions that came out. Walker gave them a bye.. even though they have historically voted repub., the overreach was so much they were not going to stand there and let that go..

I truly believe that.. they are not going to sit this one out even though it is not a presidential election that everyone can get ginned about. The stakes have been proven to be too high, they are engaged in ways I have not seen since the mid sixties when I was a teenager.

That claim is an attack ON The left, and is unsupported by the facts.

It is the JOB of Leadership to motivate the troops (voters).
If the voters don't turn out, it is a Failure of leadership.

Blaming the voters may feel good because it avoids taking any responsibility,
but that tactic has never proved productive.
You can't FIX the voters,
but if Leadership has the courage to honestly assess their own failures,
then a solution becomes possible.

Need leaders quite a bit? Do you really have such a binary notion of political motivation, that it comes from the top alone or doesn't exist? That's a real authoritarian pattern, frankly.

For me, that word "leadership" just reminds me of heads-of-state who are called "The Leader." I never seem to like them much, from their works.

I would agree, though, that blaming the voters is also entirely pointless. The question is how to motivate voters without having to wait for the right "leaders" to happen by.

mass Democratic voters sitting the election out to "teach someone a lesson"?

I thought it was more a combination of a less enthusiastic Democratic base vs. a more energized right-wing base and misguided Independents and moderates switching from D to R from '08 to '10. If anyone has any convincing evidence that it was indeed a mass of strong Democrats sitting out the '10 elections in WI with the purpose of punishing Democrats and electing Walker and Johnson in WI, I'd be interested in seeing it. That whole meme has been pounded into the ground by a certain faction on this site, and it's rather tiresome.
